Media Wednesday - Cade McNown Leaves Something Extra on the Field

One of the most memorable events I have as an Oregon Duck fan happens to be this sequence of events from Cade McNown, QB for the UCLA Bruins in 1998. It was a once in a lifetime event, almost guarenteed never to be duplicated under these circumstances and I was happy to see it first hand. Brent Musburger said it best during the call of the game...the center wants to get the ball of that spot as quickly as possible.

A word to the wise...don't watch this clip before lunch. Thank god HD didn't exist at this time.

Hehe. That reminds me of a game (I can’t remember when/what game) where a QB threw up on the field before the snap, and then proceeded to slip on the vomit when they tried to snap the ball. It was classic fun.

something similar happened to me in high school

our center puked right on the ball as we went up to snap the ball and I got called into to snap, cold with out any warm up. the refs half-heartedly tried to grind the puke into the turf but we ended up fumbling the snap because no one wanted to hold onto the ball

also I think there is video of Matt Stafford doing this in high school at Texas Stadium. He puked and then threw a td

Under winter skies
We stand glorious
And with Oden on our side
We are victorious

Wasn’t this also the game when Reuben Droughns (who had been playing on a broken ankle) was so pissed at himself after fumbling a ball that a camera caught him on the sidelines ramming his head into a metal bench?

I believe so. He fumbled 3 times in that game, and he injured his leg as well…. that was a very very tough loss, though, one of the most exciting football games I’ve ever watched.

Joey did it

it was at Autzen, Harrington was having a rough game, barfed and then proceeded to win the game. Wish I could remember the game. Maybe UCLA or USC????

That reminds me of my days in college...

There was this one party where I puked from a combo of beer, Hennessy and a burrito. Game over, right?

NOT SO FAST.

I simply gargled some Listerine and got my ass back in that game. Friday only comes once a week, baby. Touchdown!

aj feely

did the same thing in game one of i think 1998 season. it was a game on espn and my girlfriend was saying she saw him at the bookstore the week before and how hot he was. as she was saying that espn does a close up on him as he bends over and pukes. she didnt think he was as hot after that.

This was one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever seen. Not to mention from my inaugural season as a fan. Weren’t both teams something like 6-0 at this point?

Yes we will

Yep.

This was the no defense special. Droughns had run for most of the game on his broken leg I think and still piled up 200+ yards. Seems that it is hard to hold onto the ball and run through defenders when your leg isn’t held together real well. One or the other though. His performance was amazing.

Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

The ending was so up and down too. That game had so many highs and lows, it was a roller coaster the whole way.
