4-star NC Linebacker Chris McCain commits to Oregon!

Chris McCain, a 4* Linebacker originally out of Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, has committed to Oregon! McCain announced on ESPNU this afternoon. McCain is part of a group of students from the high school that visited Oregon earlier this year. Oregon is reportedly still in the running for teamates Keenan Allen and James Scales.

Chris is 6-6 and 210 pounds, and will likely play outside linebacker, though he could also play DE, much like Kenny Rowe. He will likely add some size, and will fit right into what is quickly becoming an extremely versatile defense. Due to a recent school transfer from Northern Guilford, he will not graduate until the end of 2010, so he could end up a 2011 recruit. Welcome to the family Chris!

booyah

let’s all thank baby jesus that the BSU game didn’t cost us a prospect. at least not this one.

It's spelled "T-A-K-O-T-U-E-S-D-A-Y-S-!-!-!."

I support inroywetrust in his support of The VD Special in his support of me supporting Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

Allen will be the real test. He’s really on the fence between us and Alabama.

Just about ready to post that

Great news, as I was very nervous about this today. GO DUCKS

Another note from ESPN:

McCain only intends to visit Oregon. Additionally, he is one semester behind academically after transferring from Northern Guilford and could eventually end up as a Class of 2011 recruit.

I see this as a plus.

With the depth and youth we have at linebacker, him entering as a freshman in 2011 (which I think will be a great year for our team) could be a definite plus.

I’m crossing my fingers for the Greensboro Trio.

Alston. I want you to know. I love you man. Work your Carolina magic!

And Alston, get your homework done so you can come out and play some ball. It’s your time now.

Not that it matters but...

Alston went to Page HS not Northern Guilford, I know this because they are my alma mater’s cross town rival.

Not that this tidbit changes the fact that the Ducks got a got pickup today but just thought that I would actually be able to add something contructive to the blog.

Yep! Thank you!

I’ve always thought it was dumb how people were thinking of Chris Harper as a recruiting tool during the Bryce Brown saga. The guys came from rival schools.

Thanks for the info! I had assumed that was Alton’s school because his recruitment really was a boon to Oregon’s recruitment in the area, and helped make inroads with the Northern Guilford coach.

Boon to Oregon's recruitment?

Pun intended?

Sweeeeet!

It is great to get a very talented kid from N.C at this point in the year! Lets hope he can convince some of his fellow N.C recruits to do the same. This also should break the ice in a sense; recruits will now see that Oregon is getting top-teir talent, and may be compelled to follow suit

Speaking of recruiting....

How do our RB prospects look for next year? I know that it looks like Dontae Williams is pretty close to a lock as possible, but has anyone heard anything about Marcus Lattimore or Michael Dyer or even Jame McConico? How about the RB from Florida who committed Ethan Grant? Is he another LMJ type player? I don’t have access to the good parts of rivals/scout and was wondering if anyone could share their insights. 2 more days until football at AUTZEN!!

At this point, I think we get both Grant and Williams, and they would be a good compliment to the team, and each other. We’re still in the running for Lattimore, so we’ll just have to wait and see….

I have to think that we are gonna land one of these cross-country elite recruits here sooner than later. At least hoping

That Oregon has become a national program, I don’t know what is.
