Pre-Game and Football Saturday Open Thread
We haven't talked a lot about the upcoming Purdue game this week. While we will frequently discuss the opposing team in detail, we haven't really done that this week. And honestly, it's because I have no idea what to expect or what to think. After last week's showing, I would not be surprised by anything.
With that, here's a few links and predications from around the web:
- Matt Hinton excepts a big game from the Ducks and especially Jeremiah Masoli. If not, well, let's just not talk about it. Purdue blog Boiled Sports is taking the opposite view of BoilerTMill from HammerAndRails, and all 3 writers are predicting a Purdue loss. Lastly, Moseley predicts a big win for the Ducks, with a strong showing from the Oregon defense.
- If you're going to be at the game, Moseley has some info on getting to Autzen. For you tailgaters, make sure you know the alcohol rules around Autzen, which are to be strongly enforced. Lastly, KVAL has more gameday info for you.
- In a bit of bad news, Oregon commit and Sheldon high player Curtis White re-injured his shoulder last night. He could be out a few weeks, or the whole season if he undergoes surgery.
In national college football, I'm planning watching Michigan-Notre Dame this afternoon (GO BLUE!) and we have some big Pac-10 road matchups with Stanford, UCLA, and USC all playing big matchups accross the nation. Consider this your place to discuss all things football related before kickoff this evening. GO DUCKS!

I like Matt Hinton.

For the most part
I like his blog as well, however, at times it is slightly too tabloid-esque for my taste…

I think in the afternoon I will watch Michigan/ND and at 5 I will watch USC/OSU until the Ducks come on.
I read somewhere that some people are going to have to wait to watch the game because of the Mariners game but if you have DirecTV sports pack you can catch it on time on another channel
fightlockdown.com
The game will be on Fox College Sports if the Mariner game overlaps the Duck game. Comcast has given this to its customers for the weekend as well.

I'm happy I ordered the sports package a few months back!

Sup Everybody.
working today, hopefully FSN has the ducks game on tonight.. (in the Tacoma area for the weekend)
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
you'll have to join it in progress
after the crappy Mariners game. I mean, I’m a mariners fan, but come on.

Just watched that Rome interview
Man is Chip Long winded, he just never stops talking. At least he is good at hit.
Here is to moving on. Go Ducks!
I'm really not sure how I feel about it
On one hand he said all the right things and probably put the closing chapter on the Blount saga for a while.
On the other; Coach, you’re 0-1 after an incredibly weak performance in your first game in the position. Maybe holding off from talking to national media until the ship has been righted wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
At any rate, like Coach Kelly said, hopefully by next Friday we are 1-1.
Go Ducks!

In other news, Elliott Smith was so freaking awesome.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
I hadn’t seen this performance before, but he rocked the house.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
He put on a great show there.
It makes me sad above all about how awful his shows reportedly were in his last days.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
I saw him 3 times throughout his career
One of those shows was the kind you heard of. He was wasted on stage. His equipment was breaking. At one point he screamed, “FUCK” on the mic and threw his guitar down and stormed off stage. It was ugly.
Yes we will...not score very much
Yikes dude.
I wish I’d have been a few years older when he was still alive. I was like 8 when he died and didn’t quite follow him until I was 12. He was the man. How were the other shows?
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
Amazing
I saw him in a small club with about 150 people. Just him and his acoustic. And a bottle of whiskey…which he drank straight, no ice, no nothing. By the end of the night it was empty but he seemed to play guitar better and better as the night went on.
Sorry for hijacking this thread everyone.
Football and stuff

Wake Forest has come roaring back to tie it in the 4th at 17

Pat Hill's team may be on the verge of a win at Wisconsin!

Nevermind,
Big touchdown Wisconsin! Go Badgers.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
Looks like Stanford is going to totally blow the game, Wake’s ball inside the 5 with less than a minute left, tied at 17. Stanford was up at half 17-3.

Wisconsin takes a TD-lead to begin the first OT.
I love college football.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
John Strong had some great thoughts on his show in Portland last night about the Duck fans who leave at halftime and don’t make it back until 5 minutes left in the 3rd. The duck fans that tell you (and me) to sit down during the game. It really is kind of lame, but these are the same people who booed Masoli last year AND the same people who left early during the Oklahoma game.
You people should be ashamed of yourselves!
Yes we will...not score very much
Agreed. Few other stadiums around the country allow re-entry. We shouldn’t either.

That was a FANTASTIC pitch and catch right there by Fresno.
Addicted To Quack [dot] com; Six-hundred and ninety-four yards of total offense.
Terrible throw by the FSU QB that lost the game for them.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Yep.
Bizarre decision as well.

Wisconsin over Fresno, 34-31 in 2 OTs.

Big House looking pretty good today. The new press boxes are pretty impressive.

I’ve somehow made it through the morning without hearing Kenny Chesney. Life is good.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
looks like the mariners game HOPEFULLY will be rained out.
no delay on FSN tonight woot woot.
"Awesome! Totally awesome! All right, Hamilton!"
Michigan goes up 14-3 on a kickoff return for a TD. I would love to see them pull off the upset.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
As ridiculous as that is, Clausen is looking really good.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
In my opinion...
It is not Clausen, but his O-Line that has really impressed me!

That was rough. I wanted them to do well, as they’re not Texas or Oklahoma. Wanted the little guy to do well. Tough blow for them.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Well, dont have to worry about Oklahoma anymore...
And they could still beat Texas…The Longhorns didn’t look too good against Wyoming…

i was liking oklahoma state to shake things up in the big-12 a little this year

they gots usc on the schedule
so i’m assuming that’s #2

National Championship dreams down the toilet? Fire up the Jimmy for Heisman campaign!
That deep ball throwing motion is the stuff that dreams are made of.
Hmm I wonder if someone has put together a YouTube video for this yet?

Either way, it will be tough for Clausen to win the Heisman...
Especially since we found out when UW played LSU that Bob Davie now has a “Locker for Heisman” campaign…

anybody see jordan's hall of fame speech?
supposedly downright bitter, classless, calling out everyone who ever wronged him in any slight way whatsoever.
haven’t found it yet
this isn't the speech but a sum up of it
Jordan’s always been a classless guy

its a little edited
Besides Jordan calling everybody out, the worst part of the whole ceremony was when Coach Sloan turned pages on his speech you could hear the crowd grumble because he wasn’t finished.

Crazy day
This is why I like college football so much better than the NFL.
Houston over OKSt
UCLA over Tenn
Michigan over Notre Dame (that’ll buy Rodriguez all the time/goodwill he needs)
Reason & Logic University over Lou Holtz Tech
I feel the need, the need...for speed!

They just started their game 2 hours late, so my guess is the Florida feed of the Oregon game is going to be overrun with baseball.
