Why Blount should NOT be kicked off the team

First off, although this is my first post, I have been reading the ATQ since last year. I love this diverse community of duck fans and their opinions.

Like all of you, I was disgusted by Blounts actions. It was a terrible explosion of temper that should have been controlled for the next days hitting drills. Blount should be punished. But he should not be kicked off the team. Here's why:

First, it was clear he was provoked. And while this does not excuse Blount, it at least explains why his temper could bubble over.

Second, he and all the other Ducks were clearly on edge tonight. It probably explains how poor they played. They were tense and nervous, and angry from last years loss and this years humiliation.

Third, maybe we should take a step back and put ourselves in Blounts shoes. Were just average joes who like to sit around and watch much more athletically gifted men compete. We encourage these men to be as macho as possible, to psych themselves up, to hit people on the field as hard as they can, and then we are suddenly suprised and shocked when this testerone-fueled anger and violence explodes shortly after the game. maybe we should step back from our comfy couch-sitting perspective, and put ourselves in his.

Again, even with all these things, it still doesnt make it right. In fact, this should probably lead to an indefinite suspension. But lets not be too quick to condemn Blount too harshly.

One last thing: even though this game and incident has put everyone in a sour mood, it can't get much worse. In fact, this might just be the kinda thing that can motivate a team and give it that certain intangible it takes to win many games.
