Open Thread: Rose Bowl second half

While being behind at the half is never a good thing, after the way the first quarter played out, I'm pretty happy with being down by only 6 points. The defense, after a shaky start, has held OSU to 3 field goals, and is playing with a lot of energy. The offense has shown flashes, but Jeremiah Masoli is having a rough game. Kenjon Barner has been outstanding, and has been the spark plug for the offense.
We're halfway through. Time for the Ducks to come out strong in the second half.

I’m pretty disappointed with Andre Crenshaw having two penalties on one play.. And the penalty differential has been ridiculous.

Masoli's feet are really really happy
seems like it’s affecting his accuracy. That laser he zipped to Maehl for the conversion was by far his best pass and it was also the one where he got his feet set best.

I don’t get that field goal play. You need a TD just as much as you need a FG, and it’s at 45- yards, which is already pushing the limit of Flint. I think we have an easier time getting 1 yard than a 45 yard FG.

We convert that 9 times out of 10. And 45 yards is not a chip shot — what percent of 45 yard field goals are converted in college? It’s different if it’s a 30 yard kick. Then I agree with you. But at that range I think it was a terrible decision to kick.

I love Masoli. Just cuz he had a bad game doesn’t mean I’m starting the “Bring Back Roper!” campaign. I’m just shocked that a guy who looked scintillating at times during the second half of the season looked as pedestrian as he did last night, and I was crediting Ohio State’s defense for making that happen.

this game reminds me SO SO MUCH of the 2005 USC-Texas game. How many times did USC appear to have Vince bottled up on 3rd down and he squirted loose to make huge plays? Even if it wasn’t the same total yardage, it was the same effect on the game.

I don't understand the defense critiques.
We stopped the run. We knew that Pryor would have to beat us, and he did. He made some fantastic plays.
The defense kept the team in the game for the whole 2nd and 3rd quarters. OSU has run 85 plays and counting. Oregon has run 53.

If you had told me the offense would have 17 points, I would have thought the Ducks would lose big time.
And considering how good the special teams were for Oregon, the offense’s struggles were very disappointing.

They had good field position for almost the entire game. And they only managed 15 points. We couldn’t pass for anything. I’m very disappointed with how our offense played. Just very poor execution.

Losing LMJ really hurt us. He was just starting to get going, and the threat of him and Barner had been very productive in the 2nd half. Ugh. There were flashes. OSU made some good defensive plays, and the Ducks didn’t execute consistently.

I absolutely love Thomas. Before this game I remarked I would rather have him than Pryor(it’s still pretty close).

I watched it. I was afraid of BSU.
We matched up so well with tOSU, and we literally gave them the game with 2 turnovers and who knows how many penalties.

I won't deny that we missed a ton of opportunities and had a bullseye on our foot the whole night.
But that’s football. Pryor was about three kinds of awesome tonight. Their D-line got to Masoli. We had our chances to win, played tough, and the things that bit us in the ass all year bit us in the ass tonight.

all season this was the big problem for Ohio St.’s offense. Tonight he was fantastic.

Anyone else notice how terrible the field looked..? The letters were a weird font and it wasn’t fit to the whole inzone.

I'm sick of people saying that Ohio State's defense "Completely shut down" our offense
They definitely played extremely well, I’m not saying they didn’t, but completely shutting someone down is what Boise State did to us.
