Quack Fix: ASU Sun Devils Pay Last Visit To Mac Court; It's Indoor Track Season!
It's game day in Eugene as another hoops weekend gets underway tonight. This week it's the Arizona schools visit the Oregon schools. Regardless of the early standings, it's hard for me to imagine the Ducks are favored to win either of these games. They need to get at least one. Anyways...here's your morning fix.
WTF? Quack Fix with no football. Yeah, I'm a little bummed too. If you can find something good please share. We'd all like to read something that doesn't include the word "Kiffin" in the lead paragraph. Big recruiting news on the horizon...?

I have a feeling Nate McMillan
And Jeff Prendergraph might be at the game tonight to see little McMillan and Pendy’s old team. If you see them, say hey for me.

every time Pendergraph makes a shot, MB and Rice get all surprised. its like they never saw him play and think he has no offensive game. didnt he pretty much avg 20 and 10 his sr year?

Or, maybe, a pleasant surprise of foolhardy jubilation followed by rekindled overblown expectations of something above mediocrity.

chow
Won’t be teaming up with kiffin. That’s good news. Kiffin will actually have to coach instead of leaning on his assistants.

I think UCLA proves Chow is no miracle worker
He actually needs talent to be successful.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Therefore I am glad he is not going...

Are you trying to say Prince is not talented? Lol

Or any of their other QBs
Heck no. I hope they never leave UCLA, they’re AWESOME (for us).
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
I think its a step further than that
His stint at UCLA proves that Reggie Bush makes coaches look good. Bush, White, Matty L, Jarret, Smith, I could coach that offense. Chow is clearly a good coach, but he was overrated. Still happy he is stay and UCLA.

Whereas Chip Kelly is a master on offense
Of taking the best advantage of the talent he has. I mean, do you think any other coach could make Masoli a Heisman candidate? Heck no.

I honestly don't think someone like Urban Meyer would have even given Masoli the keys altogether.

I have a Ropert is God™ complex.
Chow is overreated....
What has he done anytime lately? After he was forced out by Pete Carroll in 2004, USC’s offensive power increased dramatically, from 6.3 to 7.5 yards per play. We can talk all we want about they were more mature, blah blah blah.
Combine that with the fact that he’s done approximately nothing since he’s left USC, and I don’t know why everyone’s trying to get this guy as offensive coordinator.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Kiffin was actually the better OC after Chow left
Setting aside the dumb 4th and 2 call, Kiffin had a better record and more prolific offense then Chow.
Chow’s living off the early 2000’s, still.

Couldn't agree more.
For the longest time, I thought that I was the only one who thought that Chow is WAY overrated.
Dammit, Where the hell is Gorby when you need him!!??

Looking forward to facing the Tampa 2
According to Wikipeida, this is how you beat it (emphasis mine):
Teams that have been successful against this defense have managed to run the ball through a straw up the middle past the defensive tackles, or throw passes in the seams between the outside linebackers and the cornerbacks (often the most effective receiver against a Tampa 2 defense is a tight end, since they often line up against this seam). Other tactics that have shown to be effective on occasion are misdirection plays that take advantage of the defensive speed and rely on the defense ‘over-running’ the play (such as the middle linebacker rushing to the line of scrimmage on a play-action pass), or overloading the safeties by having multiple receivers running deep routes, creating more targets in a zone than defenders.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
The seem route and throwing to the TE is not Masoli's strong point
But I think this defense is so used so widely and there are so many hours and hours of tape that Chippers will figure out a great game plan.

Seemed like the seam to Dixon was almost always there
And then Masoli threw it over his head. I wouldn’t be too worried as I think Masoli’s passing will progress in the offseason, though.
by Brian Floyd on Jan 14, 2010 12:03 PM PST up reply actions
oh the seem is always there
Masoli is too short to hit the rout on a regular basis.

Husky Football is so desperate for relevancy
Read This and tell me whether there is actually anything news worthy. It seems to be really an effort to make husky fans feel like they have a hero.
The whole article seems to say something like “gee Sark is such a great guy, there is absolutely no evidence that he was contacted by USC, but if they had he would just turn them down because he’s no weasel like that Kiffin guy, this is his dream job.”
Hey husky fans, there is only one Weasel and he works in Westwood, Kiffin is slimy to be sure but he ain’t the Weasel.
My favorite quate from that article
They were both fallback options after USC athletic director Mike Garrett failed to land one of his top three candidates. So, why is Sark still a Husky and Kiffin a Trojan/weasel?
Hey Huskies there is only one Weasel in LA, maybe you’ve heard of him, he works for UCLA.
would this be the same one that started the tailspin in seattle?
have they tried mothballs?

This might be my least favorite part of this whole Kiffin situation
it’s actually improved my opinion of Steve Sarkesian. Ick.

I mostly just hated him because he was heralded as the savior of the Washington program, and would bring many national championships. Come on, it’s not like they hired Tim Tebow.

i never had a problem with him
I’m just laughing because they are holding him up as the messiah, or Moses, wasn’t Tyrone supposed to lead them to the promised land once?
sure but all he did was clean up the wreckage left by the rodent.
I’m very grateful we get UW at autzen next year because they could be very, very good. not stellar. but capable of beating anyone
The beloved creator of Sandwich music.
Seriously.
But they do have the Tim Tebow of the west. So that sure explains why UW has been so successful lately.
Oh wait, they still suck.

We'll See
I still think they are 2-3 years away from being good. Next year they may be bowl eligible but then Locker leaves. Then they need to get Montana Jr. in and up to speed, will Rankin be able to carry them? I don’t know but I am not buying any stock in them just yet.
i was just thinking the same thing
don’t you mean ronnie fouch?

Here's a bit of trivia for everybody
according to Rivals, how many five star recruits has Oregon signed this decade and can you name them?

Only 2 come to mind for me right off the bat
Stewart and Ngata. I’m sure there’s been one or two more

So that’s no shock.

looking through rivals
Man those five stars are nice to look at on the commitment list. Its so many
I Don't Yell O I SCREAM!
Do they give out more 5 stars now than before?
I don’t know how the rating system works, but I’m sure that as the market for recruiting news has grown, the amount of players rated has grown as well. If so, the additional 5 star commits may be somewhat artificially inflated.
I’m not sure if that’s true, but I’m throwing it out there to see if anyone knows the answer.
