A blast from the past

With all the bad vibes circling around the site lately, and with the indoor track season just around the corner, I thought I'd post something light for a change.
AtQers of a certain age will probably remember this, the original AfroDuck, which was a popular T-shirt decoration in the early 70s.
Like all the other alt-Donalds, this image is never likely to be officially resurrected; it's way too Disney. But I always thought it was a really cool design, and as usual, I hate to see relevant Duck artifacts forgotten.
I recall there was another alt-Donald with a similar, but basketball-themed logo, that might even have had Ron Lee as the original model (with the #30 jersey). I haven't run across a copy of this one yet, however. (Anyone who knows of a copy, please PM me.)
(The original source logo, from a faded iron-on transfer, below the jump for comparison.. Photoshop is my friend)

not sure I agree re: racist.
Unless by “racist” you mean “The african-american duck is in a race.”
Why should only the white ducks make it onto apparel, anyway? Isn’t that racist? Huh? Huh??
everything is history, eventually.

Why is the the only African-American duck the one running fast? Why couldn’t AfroDuck be playing volleyball, tennis, or baseball? Donald is white. That’s why he’s the only one to make it onto apparel. We’re not Abercrombie & Fitch here.
It just strikes me as odd that they’d use track as the sport to debut AfroDuck, that’s all.
And I liked the pun.

The fact that he’s doing a “Heil Hitler” is a little disturbing (and confusing).

In that case, all our players are giving a Heil Hitler with their shoulder pads.

Seriously. When a majority of the athletes are African-American..
.. what’s wrong with having a representation of same for a logo?
Or is it the haircut that’s bothering you? Should I photoshop in a fade, perhaps?

Even the cheer squad had an Afro Amer sounding edge (not tha there's anything wrong with that.)
Remembering a Beta named Darryl, would get on the microphone with the cheer leaders in front of the crowd with a couple of the following cheers:
Shake uh huh, my team is mellow now, shake that funky green and shake that funky yellow.
OR
We want the ones in the green because we know they’re mean, we want Duck.
OR
Get down Maurice, get down.
All while the crowd trying to put a groove on in the stands.

I absolutely love that retro Donald look
I don’t think it is racist at all. Wasn’t there a football and basketball design similar to this one? I saved the track one to my computer, I would love to have the basketball and football ones if you have them also.

Haven't found the hoops one yet.
If there was a football model I don’t remember seeing it. Remember, we weren’t exactly a powerhouse in the early 70s.
I’m pretty sure the basketball logo was Donald-as-Ronnie Lee, ’fro and all, like this…

Short shorts are kind of a trendy fad for the "look at me" type kids down here.

It'd be fun to bring them back and listen for all the purists saying that Oregon keeps pushing "too futuristic."

Benzduck, have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate your posts? I don’t think I have, but it’s a lot.

Sometime
Last year I think it was Bob Welch did a column about the old track and b-ball logo’s and I saw the Ronnie Lee one. They are so cool. I am a sucker for all that retro stuff.
