Message from UO Compliance Office

Saw this today and figured I ought to share...It seems like this is hard to enforce as there seems to be all sorts of groups on sites like facebook trying to encourage recruits to choose this school or that. Hopefully we don't get in trouble for something like this.

The following is a message from the UO Compliance Office:

Coaches are making their final pushes with prospects and NLI signing day is just a couple of days away, so the UO Compliance Office would like to share a warning to Duck fans as the annual recruiting milestone inches closer: you cannot correspond in any manner with a prospective student-athlete (recruit). It might seem like a harmless way to help, but in reality, it could hurt more than anything.

With the National Letter of Intent signing date drawing near, we just wanted to remind you that fan-driven wooing of high school prospects via letters, email, Facebook and other social networking sites is not permitted. The UO Compliance Office is requesting that all Duck supporters learn about the pitfalls of social networking sites when it comes to NCAA regulations.

Creating Facebook groups or contacting prospects via message boards, Twitter or other social networking sites to encourage them to attend UO violates NCAA regulations and can negatively impact the UO athletic program, so please refrain from crossing any lines when it comes to the world of cyber-recruiting.

Please feel free to contact the compliance office at 541-346-5439 if you have any questions.
