Highly Rated Kicker Drops UW, Will Be A Duck
The fun continues... Scout.com and ESPN are both reporting tonight that 3-star kicker Alejandro Maldonado has decommitted from Washington and will instead kick for Oregon. Scout's profile ranks Maldonado as the #7 kicker in the country and states that he "has one of the biggest legs of any kicker in the country."

3 times really
Rowland was about ready to commit to UW before his UO visit. He hurts worse than either AM or KL.
On the other hand James Johnson was plucked from UO last year, and you guys made a failed run at Jesse Callier this year. It’s an annual cycle and for all we know all of the guys I listed (although JJ is producing for us so far) could fizzle out and be way overrated.

Sweet.
Hopefully becomes official on the 3rd!
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
Hahaha,
I find it amusing that Scout lists his size as a negative. We’re talking about kickers here!
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
Seriously.
Apparently he has a very strong leg, sounds good. If he can pair that with Morgan Flint type accuracy, we have ourselves one hell of a kicker.
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
The funniest part
we (who don’t use a kicker very much) stole the huskies kicker (which they need to use a lot). hehehehe, any other positions the huskies need we can steal away?
I support the calls to fire Matt Daddy

Lets see here, I know they will need a QB...
So It would be hilarious to take their already anointed QB of the future Nick Montana. Obviously not going to happen, but the thought itself is hilarious nonetheless.
Maybe an ex-Fuskie DB or two would be nice…
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
Not necessarily true...
Flint was 16 of 19 with 55 XPA. Folk was 18 of 21 with 35 XPA.
And while it’s really sad (even for a Husky) what happened to Beard, your situation does look to be more open now. I just wish the kid zero luck in your ugly uniforms. He looks to be a good one though.
Best part about our ugly uniforms: if you don’t like them, don’t worry — they’ll be different in a half hour anyway!

Di Paolo
Doesn’t mean much I suppose, but Rivals has taken Di Paolo off of the USC commitment list. They list USC and UCLA as his top schools, but if he’s too soft of USC for a commitment at this point, maybe he is still considering Oregon.
I believe that he cancelled his visit to UO,
That says it all in my eyes.
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
He has...
we haven’t lost out on a big in-state target yet…Happy Iona maybe, but his academics are iffy. We got the best (with exception of TE) in-state prospects at each position we’re targeting.
Recruiting in-state is nice.
But out of state works just fine. Lache Seastrunk, Dontae Williams, Chris McCain, Bryan Bennett, Dior Mathis etc…
Not to mention, one Jonathan Stewart.
LaMichael James + Kenjon Barner + Lache Seastrunk + Dontae Williams + Remene Alston + Kenaon Lowe + ...
Stewart was a gaffe...
Taylor Mays was even bigger. But that staff is gone.
WA has far more top prospects year in year out than OR. UO recritus nationally out of necessity, UW can get by with locking down the top 5-15 guys in state annually and plucking the rest from CA and HI.
Not that either strategy is better than the other, but your sarcasam was unwarrented. Sark did lock down the best in the state, and grabbed the rest from the west. It’s how Don James found success, and by all accounts, it’s how Sark is finding his (at least the small sample size we have to work with).

There’s no doubt that on average, UW has significantly more high school talent than Oregon. But let’s not kid ourselves. It’s nowhere near the level of even coming close to sustaining a program that wishes to compete for BCS titles.
California had 39 players get drafted in the 2007 NFL draft. Washington had 3. Oregon had 4. If Oregon or Washington wants to compete, they’re going to rely on out of state talent. Sure, they may get some contributors or key players every year, with the handful of 4* players that come out of the states every year, but those are the exception, and you’re not going to build a program on those players.

Precisely what I'm saying...
you guys are hitting the national scene. UW is moving back towards taking the WA Pac-10 talent and filling in from California and Hawaii. I’m not trying to debate the merit’s of either one, merely stating that the latter was Don James’s system building agenda.
Sark has closed the borders of WA state (so far) which is exactly what he said he would do when he arrived. My point is that CaDuck’s “border” post was out of context.
On another note, UW has done very well out of state this year (Montana, Kolher, Hatchie, Cooper), we just happen to have 2 bumper crops of in-state kids in 09/10-10/11. I think if we have another year like 08/09 you’ll see us doing something similar to UO, just waaaay more focused on the west coast.
Honestly, I hate those things.
Way too sensitive and I don’t honestly see the need.

I can tolerate scroll wheels...
it’s the damned thumb trackball mice that bother me. I think I have a problem with companies comepletely coming out of left field with an idea, then telling me it makes my life easier to learn to use something new.

EVERY UW coach trumpets that he will close the borders.
Sounds like Sark is applying the old Oregon recruiting philosophy (hit the NW and hope you can compete for the leftovers from California).
Will be interesting to see how this works out in a couple of years.
everything is history, eventually.
The problem is,
As jtlight said below, recruiting well in Washington can only take you so far. Sure it’s nice to have some in state talent, but we both know that Washington is not exactly the most fertile recruiting ground.

Love how the DAWGS are already recruiting for next year.
…cause nobody else does that?

I remember reading that and laughing!
Only Sark can recruit for next season. No other coach can do that!
