Here's what I see, As far as the human polls go, I don't see us dropping from the number 1 slot. Auburn was impressive but they were at home against a 3-5 ole miss team that hasn't stopped anyone on defense all year. Oregon beat a AP ranked team that you all know would have been ranked in the other polls if they could have.
So take a look at the current BCS rankings...
http://espn.go.com/college-football/bcs/_/week/9
Oregon as far as the computers go are currently ranked #8. Above them, the number 2 and 3 teams Missouri and Michigan St. both lost today. That pushes us up to #6 if nobody else jumps us.
However, While Oregon was ranked #8 in the computer poll, I want you to try and find the team who, on average, is ranked #7 in the computers...
I'll wait...
Now maybe I'm blind, but I don't see one. In fact, we don't even have 25 teams who all earned a ranking by the BCS computers, see Nevada down at the bottom NR. Could it be that the computers think so highly of USC that they were ranked above us in the computer standings? It's not so far fetched to think, the mysterious computer formulas that put these rankings together might do something like that. If that's the case, the computers are going to see us beating the #7 ranked team in the nation which will give us a healthy boost.
This is all pure speculation but what if? We could gain some valuable ground on AUB and put more distance between us and the fBSU's of the world.
Here's the big if: IF Oregon gains more than 3 spots in the computer rankings, tomorrow we will be the home town of the unanimous #1 team in the nation.
Here's to hoping, and here's to this seasons biggest game, Next Saturday when UW rolls into Autzen Stadium!
