Postgame Thread: Oregon Ducks 48, Arizona Wildcats 29
That's more like it. After an evenly played first half, the Ducks game out blazing in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 34-10. Josh Huff got it started with an electric 85 yard touchdown run, and the offense kept rolling from there. If the Cal game put any doubt in your mind about our place as the best team in the country, tonight's game told that doubt to shut the hell up. The Ducks have clinched a second straight Pac-10 championship, and are one win away from an undefeated regular season. Go Ducks!
Please keep all comments to the Oregon-Arizona game. If you'd like to talk about the fBSU-Nevada game, please use the Black Friday open thread HERE.

Play of the game:
Kenjon Barner’s run on 4th and 1 with the score 20-19. He got hit in the backfield and fought hard for the first down. Ducks drive down the field for a TD, and rolled from there.

You know...
I didn’t mind the blown coverages by the secondary nearly as much as I hated the fact that we were unable to consistently get any real amount of pressure on the QB. When Flobee gets 5-8 seconds to look downfield on every pass play, the DBs are going to struggle to maintain coverage.
That said, I am thankful for the offense and the win.
Albino Mormon 4 Life
That went about like I expected.
I’m slowly learning not to freak out when we’re behind at the half.
Slowly.
Criner didn’t help.
Congratulations to Chip Kelly and the Ducks ----- 2010 PAC 10 Champs
It wasn’t easy, early. And it often was ugly. Penalties seemed to be keeping us in the game early, and our defense was porous. Surely and steadily, however, the Ducks asserted themselves as the Zona D wilted, and our D managed to shutdown some of their drives.
The end result was not unlike some of the games we’re had all year, where we appeared to have dominated, at least in the final score. We were really good on some plays, and we overpowered them late with our conditioning and our confidence. This is a team that exudes confidence and demonstrates reslience over and over.
Thank you, Chip Kelly, for bringing the PAC 10 crown back to Eugene for the second year in a row! Thank you, Duck players, you were awesome. Thank you, seniors of the winningest class in Oregon history! You have left a remarkable legacy. We are in your debt! Oregon fans will remember this season a long, long time.
Congratulations, Chip Kelly and the Oregon Ducks, PAC 10 Champs!

The fix is in at Boise games too! The refs only let them beat Southern Maine Girls Acadmey for the Mentally Disturbed by 64!
Actually Bama didn't cover
The spread was Alabama -4.5.
They lost 28-27 which is means Auburn covered easily.
Wow. Didn't know Auburn was a dog.
I suppose, as any CBS announcer will tell you, that that just proves how awesome the SEC is.
I don't think I heard a single "expert" pick Auburn in this game.

Anyone happen to know which coaches have won back-to-back conference titles in their first two years? I don’t think anyone’s ever done it in the Pac-10, just curious if it’s happened elsewhere.
None of these guys:
Don James, Pete Carrol, Dennis Erickson (take your pick, WSU, OSU, or Zona St.), …

Larry Smith did it @ USC

Unfortunately for him, he was doing it with Ted Tollner’s players. He never got back to the Rose Bowl after that stretch.

They will never forgive us for that OHMYGODHORRIBLECHEATINGPICKPLAY that took their guy our of the game
and ended our starting WR’s season. Yes, Chip obviously drew that one up exactly the way it played out.
.
That ridiculous week-long “fake injury-gate” didn’t really help matters, what with them totally losing the media war. Hard for them to dog Oregon fans for suggesting that they would stoop to such a thing when every single media outlet got on their case for it, and their coach is reported to bald-faced lie about it. Their team ended up taking way more flak for it than they deserved, and they got hardly any credit for their great defensive game.
They Are STILL Whining about it on CGB...

Zona has a good team, and played us tough. Stoops didn’t stoop to any fake injuries, and was a honest, upfront guy. Looking back on all the PAC 10 teams and coaches who’ve played us, the ones I didn’t expect to be lemons were, and the ones I had some respect for turned out to be twerps.

If we take care of business in Corvallis won’t the Rose Bowl take TCU over Stanford?

No, TCU, unless they lose to New Mexico
And if that happens watch for other signs of the Apocalypse.
That's "Senator Lazypants" to you, son.
No
They’ll still be required to take TCU as the top non-AQ team.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
How does that rule work?
Does the Rose Bowl HAVE to take the non-AQ team this year, or is it some time in the next 2-3 years? Wouldn’t they take #4-5 Stanford if they could put off the TCU thing, and have a good old Pac-10/Big 10 matchup?
Here we go
The Rose Bowl is required to take the top non-AQ automatic qualifying team (if that team doesn’t make the NC game) the first time they lose either the Pac-10 or Big 10 champ to the NC game in this four year cycle.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
For the games of January 2011 through 2014, the first year the Rose Bowl loses a team to the NCG and a team from the non-AQ group is an automatic qualifier, that non-AQ team will play in the Rose Bowl.

Kicker's reaction says it all...
He has the best line of sight on the ball of anyone in the stadium. No fists in the air, no jumping. He stands there stoically, then puts his hands on his hips. His reaction is that of a kicker who knows he just shanked it. If he saw it differently than the refs, I would expect him to be hopping mad, but he wasn’t.
On Sportscenter, they digitally extended the goalposts.
You could really tell he missed it then.

The FBI caught someone trying to blow up a bomb in Portland
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/11/fbi_thwarts_terrorist_bombing.html
The FBI thwarted an attempted terrorist bombing in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square before the city’s annual tree-lighting Friday night, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon.
A Corvallis man, thinking he was going to ignite a bomb, drove a van to the corner of the square at Southwest Yamhill Street and Sixth Avenue and attempted to detonate it.
However, the supposed explosive was a dummy that FBI operatives supplied to him, according to an affidavit in support of a criminal complaint signed Friday night by U.S. Magistrate Judge John V. Acosta.
Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, a Somali-born U.S. citizen, was arrested at 5:42 p.m., 18 minutes before the tree lighting was to occur, on an accusation of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The good part won't start for a bit
Top plays coming up next on ESPN I think. Where will Huff’s TD be?

I’m gonna say 7. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t make it because there were basketball games where people dunked the ball.

Slow mo of the first FG miss
Yes it was a miss:

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
To me that slow-mo video doesn't really show anything new.
I think it was a miss because officials next to never get that call wrong, and the crowd reaction behind the net was very indicative.
But that video gives you no real point of reference for it. He could have been kicking it from any angle.
He was only five-foot-three but girls could not resist his stare... Chip Kelly never got called an asshole.
You're our friendly neighborhood placekicker. You should be the expert.

What really throws it off is not knowing how far behind the posts the net is. If it’s right behind, then yes, it’s definitely a shank. But if there’s a decent distance, it looks good. It’s still really tough to tell from that shot without doing some math-y calculations.
Defending maligned chants since 2009
I would just love a better camera angle, or higher goalposts.
Slowing down the video of it and magnifying the ball flying over the post doesn’t show anything at all.
As it went for me, I watched it happen and waited on baited breath for the call on the field, because I truly had no idea what it would be.
He was only five-foot-three but girls could not resist his stare... Chip Kelly never got called an asshole.
Does anyone know

Kinda worked out for the best though.
Boise could have had either a couple of shots at the end zone or 2 chances for the FG if Nevada had managed it better.

I must admit...
I feel sorry for BSU. I know, I know… It is just I’m a Blazers and Ducks fan… I’ve been rooting for small market teams my whole life.
but...
then I remember their President, their fans, what they did to Idaho, their absurd home-and-home request, their delusion that going undefeated in the WAC is equal to going undefeated in any other conference… then, I stop feeling sorry for them; i do feel bad for the kicker though. You hate to see a game rest squarely on somebody’s shoulders like that…

Yeah, don't forget the 3 straight dropped passes for no gain that preceded the FG attempt
You could as easily say it was Moore’s failures to get the first down or get a TD on 3 straight attempts. Blaming one single play for a loss is hardly fair.

Stanford might be a big winner tonight.
the SEC and Big 10 are probably locked in to at-large BCS berths. But with Boise out of the picture, there’s an extra at-large for a BCS league team. ACC and Big East shouldn’t get a second bid, so Stanford will be up against whoever might be eligible from the Big XII, and any runner-up from that league will have at least 2 losses.
You know what makes me happy? The fact that we won’t have to deal with Bronco fans pissing and moaning about being “stuck with” the Rose Bowl.
They deserve a BCS bowl.
"We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor." - president of "the" Ohio State University.
I'm assuming you meant Stanford -- and yes, it would be a travesty of injustice
if they got jumped by a second team from the Big 10, Big 12 or SEC.

Is it just me?
Or is it hilarious when Joe G. says “he could go if he has enough speed” when Huff or James are 10 yards ahead of the nearest defender? It’s not just me, right? It makes sense if he did it when Big Dave gets the ball; Paulson isn’t going to pull away over distance. But JH? LMJ? KJB? Cliff? Heck, even Musburger says “end zone” before James clears the secondary, with a “they won’t catch him” thrown in for good measure.

This is what’s wrong with college football
Before last night, I watched plenty of college football because of how it all could affect the Broncos. Now that it doesn’t matter anymore, I only have two games to watch this year. Broncos v Utah State and whatever meaningless bowl they get. A one-loss WAC co-champ should still have some type of a shot at a national title.
But if you look on the bright side, the Broncos can finish the season with a win – in a meaningless game. Why does college football have the same mindset as little league t-ball? I wouldn’t be surprised if they just stop keeping score in a few years so no one has to feel like Brotzman probably does today.

I completely agree.
A one-loss WAC team should certainly still be in the mix for a title. Their schedule is much harder, there’s no doubt that a one-loss WAC team is more deserving of a national title bid than an undefeated Oregon, Auburn, or TCU.
I’m laughing so hard I can barely type. Boise Community College fans are… I don’t know. Deluded doesn’t even come close.
