Quack Fix: John Wooden, Sweeps, and a Disappointing Senior Day
I have one simple request. And that is to have ducks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!
- Am I really writing this the day after our third sweep of the season? This isn't some crazy version of the hangover? If men's basketball sweeps the Washington schools and Stanford loses to Cal, we are guaranteed at least 8th place and avoid the play-in game. How crazy is that?
- I wasn't expecting to see the old Tajuan Porter ever again but he exploded onto the scene yesterday, carrying the Ducks with 29 points.
- The women's basketball team looked poised to have one of their best wins of the season but UCLA outscored the Ducks 41-9 in the final 14 minutes of the game to send the seniors out with a disappointing loss.
- The Track and Field teams got some much needed momentum as the women won their first ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship with 133 points. The men placed 6th in the same event. Next up: the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2 weeks.
- Mark Baker of the Register Guard puts the football team's issues in a greater perspective.
- Some Bruins fans are of a mind that their basketball team didn't care enough that John Wooden was in attendance and therefore gave a horrible effort and lost the game.
- if you didn't see this, here comes the red turf at Eastern Washington!
We'll have an open thread available for those that want to discuss the USA vs Canada Gold Medal Game from the Olympics starting at about 11:30am. If you find any quack in the meantime, please post it up and Go Ducks!

What do Ducks dream of, when they take a little Duck snooze? Do they dream of mauling Bruins, or Tajuan Porter in his 2007 suit?

Slightly OT: Steve Alford gets a mention in Deadspin this morning. I know there’s some Duck fans out there who like Alford as a potential replacement for Kent.
I was just gonna post that.
Not exactly the type of conduct you would desire from an experienced coach such as Alford…

Bobby Knight was his college coach
And, to be fair, the kid did pull a dick move. I like the fire from him!

Still…HE’S A MAN! HE’S FORTY (FIVE)!
Fire is good, calling college kids on the opposing team a-holes…not so good.

Couldnt the Ducks get 7th?
if they sweep the Washington schools, OSU gets sweeped by the Washington schools, and Stanford loses. Hey wait that puts us at 8-10. If USC and UCLA who are both 8-8 in conference get swept by the Arizona schools, does that put us in 5th?
Stackin' wins like legos; toastin' Pac-10 like de eggos
I believe that’s right. One of the recaps I read this morning mentioned there was still a chance the Ducks could finish fifth in the Pac-10. How crazy would that be?
Friggin' Pac-10, man.

Don't the bottom four teams have to play in?
If eight teams get in and there’s a play in game that leaves nine teams. You’d need another play in game.
by Blazersaurus on Mar 1, 2010 12:02 AM PST up reply actions
With USC ineligible, the 7 seed gets a pass this year. Only the bottom 2 play in.

Exactly.
As cougfan said above, we let LT go, and are basically letting Sproles go. So that leaves us with Michael Bennett. Thats it.

Well,
Last season we had to franchise him and aid him over 6 million a season. He did not produce nearly 6 million dollars worth of output, so I imagine that the management just wants to move on.

McCluster will be a great role player in the NFL,
But I just cannot imagine a 160 pound runningback going in the first round. If we could pick him up in the late second, or preferably the third, I would be ecstatic.

He weighed in at 172 at the combine.
About what CJ came in at. Now he’s about 205. And the best running back in the league, by far.

We need an all around back that can catch passes.
LT had the size (220), and was a great reciever out of the backfield. Mathews is a little faster and can catch better.
