Picking Chauncey Billups over AB to replace Chris Paul in the NBA All-Star game.

To be fair, Billups is the better player.
Aaron’s in a great situation for him to display his talents. He’s young too, so I wouldn’t rule him out of beng involved someday.
Yes! Yes! In the face!
Brooks will get his chance.
He’s only really been in the spotlight for less than a year (his coming-out party was the playoffs last season).
everything is history, eventually.

Chip is saying they’re really going for athleticism and speed.
Good QB, Bryan has good athletic ability
We gotta replace a lot on the secondary, replace lost depth, but we have a lot of athletes, and we’ll see where all these players hit.
Don’t have a linebacker need this year, Tony Washington and Ricky will be good on D-line.
Lots of character in the class. Not mopey guys (reading between the lines, not Gabe King?). This class is the right fit for Eugene.

Is there any doubt that this guy is the college version of Bellichick? Terse interviews and essentially saying that talent trumps everything else. I love that Kelly is looking for athletes and then he’ll decide where to plug them in.
Except he's not a jackass
Nor does he refer to players by their position alone (e.g. Tom Brady is “The Quarterback”).

Kelly’s saying that they will not take players just because of a “need.” He brought up how we were light this year on the D-line, but that wasn’t a problem during the season.
They’re gonna take the best players, and then see how it all works out. An example is Malone, and they don’t know where he’ll play, but we’ll just have to wait and see how he develops.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog

"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Bah...
Scout and ESPN are so skewed towards a certain region. Rivals is the best because they truly cover the entire nation.
Rivals is lacking big time in the northwest
They carry a pretty heavy mid west bias…really the best you can do is look at film yourself and make your own damn decisions. I personally like Scout for UW’s class (not only because they have us rated highest) because Dawgman has great coverage of WA and a lot of the personnel out West are very quality evaluators.
ESPN is way behind in terms of coverage…Rivals and Scout both have their ups and downs, but they’re about equal in terms of coverage. Rivals is going to give better insight about your MI and TX guys, and Scout will generally give better insight about the OR and CA guys.
Also, who cares if rankings are skewed? ESPN could have UW with the #113th ranked class in the country, it’ll play out on the field.
You HRD’d it for sure!

Yes, and I'll tell you why.
Again, I may be reading it entirely the wrong way. But the first time reading that quote, I felt the tone of it was so as to say “Why wouldn’t this 4-star cornerback want to commit to us? The sky is falling if we don’t get this one guy.” It sounds smug and a little bit of taking for granted.
Please, tell me if I’m mistaken. I probably am anyway.

Well, the story up to that point was about the relationship that Neal had built with Mathis. So if Mathis had dropped Oregon at the last minute, it would have hurt on a much more personal level.
In that context, it’s not complacent at all.

Um...
Hate to do this, but…you should look up the definition of complacent. I’m not sure how your take on his thoughts suggests complacency.
That being said, I like what John said. It suggests that he’s connecting with the kids beyond the meat-market value of pkayers as athletes. It made me think he built a solid relationship with Dior based on mutual respect and honesty, and would have been disappointed-almost betrayed—if DM had not chosen UO.
I’d be careful if I were John, though. He’s going to get his heart broken a lot—or lose his faith in humanity a lot—if he looks at recruiting this way. These kids are too fickle and capricious.
Regardless, I like his passion and am rather impressed with the the group of DBs he helped bring in.
I don't think they are going to pick many kids who are fickle and capricious.
That’s the way it sounded in CK’s press conference. that everyone had a say who whether the guy was good for the team or not, especially the current players and it would seem that some f. and c.’s were sent to Cal……?

Isn’t it hard to believe that this was Chip Kelly’s first year as a head coach? It’s nice to reach for the clouds but if the class wasn’t great I think many of us would have accepted that new staff plus a first time guy equals an adjustment period. Add that the Rose Bowl Bump probably won’t have a true impact until next season and it’s just remarkable to bring in so many talented athletes.
So much speed on the offensive side of the ball, next year should be a lot of fun to watch. Pretty soon we’ll be running the A-11 and even our center will be a 4.5 sprinter. The NCAA will respond by forcing a new “lead sneaker” rule for the Pac-10 to keep the SEC competitive with us.
Totally. I’m really impressed how we’ve jacked these Texas RB’s. Come here if you want to put up stats!

Why I like Rivals more then Scout:
Rivals team running back rankings :
Scout team running back rankings :
I feel like rivals, in terms of rankings, looks more at quality and scout looks more at quantity. But I’m definitely no expert and being a duck fan I can’t help but side with sites that give Oregon higher ratings.

GO DUCKS. and (shsh... rockets too)
I'll go with Rivals
Hmm, 13 in both for Oregon, but UW is 11 in scout vs. 28 in rivals
I’ll go with rivals
Berkowitz had a good point to today
This will go down as either the class that helped Steve Sarkisian and the Washington Huskies turn the corner toward being among the Pac 10’s elite or it will be the class that mires them in a mediocrity that he will never recover from. When you bring in thirty athletes in one class you are cementing your future one way or another in the era of only 85 scholarships.
I do feel that it’s getting overrated (at least by Scout) because of the size, but it’s also very necessary for the Huskies to get some solid players into the program. Be interesting to see how it works out.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
It's a good class
It’s a large class, but it’s the best they’ve seen in quite some time as well. This is really a make or break class and is ,in essence, dropping your nuts on the table and banking on the class to come through.
plus the positions they are filling are ones that will require production and are not just “fillers” If these guys don’t make it, UW will have a hard time filling in behind them
Addicted to Quack I just got the newest version of Masoli Guitar Hero.
I think we can fill behind them
but our problem is that our current depth, is still our current depth. We’re not very deep anywhere. Most of this class will either redshirt and leapfrog alot of current backups or come in as true frosh and take somebodies job.

Huff will be playing WR/TZR, so he won’t really be taking that spot.
Coleman will likely play defense. That leaves us with 5 scholarship RB’s this season (if you count Barner), right about where we should be.

Great class for USC.
- and #2 WRs, #1 TE, #1 OT, #3 DT, #5 RB nationally.
Overall, 12 players in the top 10 at their position nationwide.
Quite a coup for Kiffin to retain and in fact add players after the coaching change.
Too bad they’ll all be on probation.

Compound interest does not negatively amortize. Are you sure you went to Oregon?
everything is history, eventually.
Interest rates are really down.

Sounds like he could be the perfect successor to Masoli’s throne.
Let’s not forget about Darron Thomas. I really love our QB depth.

I am really excited about Bennett.
He has a great release, keeps the football high and tight. He seems like an accurate passer, and plays DB for his team. Se he can RUN.
Great fit for this offense.

NCAA outlawed that some time ago.
you can have a track guy on a football schollie — not the opposite.
i think they changed that 20 years ago, when half the Nebraska “track team” was on the football squad.
everything is history, eventually.
same w/ baseball like Lane last year right? what was Jordan Kent actually on scholarship for?

You used the term 'successes', a plural form.
That deserves a rec for sneaky hyperbole, methinks.
