Andy Staples Article on Chip Kelly's Disciplinary Decisions.
Great article. I've always enjoyed Staples' work, and this is no exception. A bit negative, but nonetheless, Staples "gets it".

I wouldn’t say negative at all. His thesis clearly is “you value character over wins, and that’s something we all can learn from”. He just chose sarcasm over preaching as his way to get that across.

No, I meant the negativity by dismissing Oregon as a Sun Bowl-Caliber team next year.

Sun Bowl isn’t too unrealistic, given questions at quarterback and a wide-open Pac-10.

Really?
I’d have to disagree there.

if we finished fourth place in the PX, that would be a huge disappointment

Seriously.
’Furd should take a step down this season now that they lost their offense. ASU will be mediocre, UA in my opinion will be slightly worse, OSU will stay the same. Cal should be a little better, UW should be a 5/6th place team in the Pac. Who the hell knows what USC will be like. UCLA could be decent this season, if they find a QB. And WSU will obviously win the conference.
It would be a REAL disappointment to end up fourth, or anything less than second.
This off-season officially sucks for SEVEN(!!!!!!!) reasons and counting...
agree, except..
osu lost their all pac-10 quarterback and movaeo didnt get his medical redshirt.. look for the beavs to fall a little bit
So, you agree we will win the conference
Alert the authorities, I found a believer.

I think Furd only lost half their offense. Luck was dropping passes in perfectly when we played them.
Worst birthday trip ever.

Yeah,
But if it were not for Gerhart, then we would not be single covering their receivers. He was able to complete those passes because our defense had to key on a god damn rhino in the backfield.

Agreed. Luck is the best pure passer in the Pac-10.

This piece was atrocious. He states that all that matters is winning, nothing else.
I consider college athletics big business, but education and building character are more important in the long run.
On top of this, I feel that these traits are very important to create winning teams.
If you don’t do things the right way, your team will flame out. Ask any big program that fell on hard times. Staples’ view is a joke.

I don't know if you're being sarcasting or not...
But that piece was most definitely tongue-in-cheek.

There’s way too much that’s serious in that piece for it to be considered sarcasm.
Its basically Le Batard’s view taken one step farther.
For his sake I hope he was trying to be funny.

It was HIGHLY sarcastic. Staples is a good writer. There's no way in Hell that he was serious.

After re-reading it thinking it was serious, it sounds serious. But if you read it thinking it’s sarcastic, it’s sarcastic. It’s blowing my mind right now.

The sign of a talented writer.
But, if it helps, read it aloud in a sarcastic voice.
everything is history, eventually.
Staples must be a secret genius. This is freaking me out now.

See, I think it’s satire. At least, that’s how I read it. Take a look at the third “story highlight”.

There's NO DOUBT that it's satire.

Agreed. No question.
The article is nothing less than an ode of praise for Kelly. Deserved, I think.
Life is a sport: Watch other people play it.
you can't possibly think this piece was in any way serious.

I thought it was a decent piece.
But Costa only won one game for us last season, not “a few”.

That’s just because we all have huge Darrections.

I just appreciated the humor in it.
I assumed that it was sarcasm right away.
