Interesting Letter to the Editor in the 3/18 R-G
This seems like a good conversation starter, and has been expressed by a few people around here...What is below has been written word-for-word from the Guard.
Reshuffle the UO athletic deck
How to improve UO athletics:
1. Fire athletic director Mike Bellotti. He is the main person responsible for the low state of ethics and conduct by the football players. He brought them in, and set the standards.
2. Hire basketball coach Ernie Kent as athletic director. Kent needed to move on, and the AD position would be a good place to utilize his skills. He has better academic and ethical standards than Bellotti.
The important business decisions are made by Phil Knight, so that would not change. And Ernie's smile and personality would convey a much better image than the dour countenance of Bellotti.

What a terrible idea. Ernie is a great person, but do we have any clue that he’d be competent at AD?
As far as firing Bellotti over some misdeeds by football players, give me a break.

There’s no way Ernie would take the AD job. He wants to coach. Maybe he’ll be back at Oregon in some capacity, but um… no.
Also, I don’t think Bellotti has done anything that would merit firing him from AD. Thinking that his post at AD is the reason why we have the issues with the football players shows complete ignorance over what the duties of AD are.
It is a bad idea all around.

This is pretty ridiculous. But, the real question is: Would AD Ernie reinstate himself as basketball coach?
probably not
but what would be really interesting is to see who he would hire as basketball coach
Hey, I'm Quinn. What's your name?

This is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard of.
Especially for a program that’s being (equally stupidly) accused of being ‘out of control’. Nothing says stability like hiring and firing an AD, firing and rehiring a basketball coach in the space of a year.
Sorry, my eyes can’t stop rolling. Anybody know a good ophthalmologist?
Makes more sense to
make Jamere Holland the new AD with his expert social networking skills.
We are now leaving ATQ. Did you go potty and take your medication?
