Lost or quack? Quack please!
- Oregon softball swept their regional over the weekend, thanks to a spectacular relief effort by Mikayla Endicott. She came in as a relief pitcher in the bottom of the seventh, tie game, bases loaded and only one out, and struck out two batters to end the inning, and struck out two more in the next inning after the Ducks had taken a one run lead. The win will send the Ducks to Missouri, where they'll take on the Tigers in a best of 3 series, with the winner headed to the Women's College World Series.
- After Oregon baseball lost in extra innings to the Huskies on Friday night (the Ducks 4th straight Pac-10 loss), there was a lot of angst among Duck fans, but the team came back to win the next two in Seattle and get back to .500 in league play. SP Zack Thornton led the effort on Sunday, pitching 7.2 innings and giving up only one unearned run. It was quite the turnaround from Friday night, when the Ducks gave up 20 hits. Oregon now sits at 37-19 with 4 games remaining. Wednesday night the Ducks take on the Beavers in a non-conference game in Portland, and close the regular season with a series at PK Park against California.
- Oregon basketball could be taking a hit, as Oregon assistent Kenny Payne visited Kentucky over the weekend as is rumored to be a candidate for an assistant coaching position with the Wildcats. While I feel that Altman would be just fine no matter what happens, losing Payne would make Altman's life much more difficult.
- The athletic complex may be getting another makeover, as a long-rumored expansion to the Casanova center was announced over the weekend. The expansion will be into Papa Field, which will be rebuilt just outside of PK Park. The main concern with this plan will be parking, though an underground parking garage will be built, so there will be a net parking gain. This expansion will be for the football team, but will in effect give more space to other athletic teams, which really need it. If approved, the expansion should be completed by February 2013.
