Las Vegas PG Jon Loyd commits to Oregon
For all the angst regarding the Oregon coaching staff and the Terrence Jones commitment, Dana Altman is already making an impact on the recruiting trail. Oregon has received a signed LOI from 5'8" point guard Jon Loyd out of Las Vegas.
Loyd is a high energy player who was 2010 Gatorade player of the year from Nevada, led his team to a state championship, and amassed 103 wins while in school. He can push the tempo on offense, and is very active on defense. Loyd has flown under the radar due to his size, but has the quickness to create his own shot. He sounds like a perfect addition to Dana Altman's offense, with his ability to pass and shoot, and should do very well in Altman's defensive gameplan.
With 2 1/2 weeks left until the end of the basketball signing period, the Ducks are making a push to be competitive immediately in the Pac-10 and get their scholarship situation in better shape. Though Altman got a late start, it looks like he's making great strides already. GO DUCKS, and welcome Jon Loyd!

This is a good first get by Altman
I know many have been upset by not getting one of Terrences to come here, but if you look at who Oregon is going after right now (Lloyd, Munford, and Nared) the one thing all these guys have in common is they have a relationship with Fish (Altman’s assistant) or Altman. Recruiting is about relationships and given Oregon’s resources Altman will be able to create a lot of good relationships over the coming years. Altman is doing a great job of bringing in those kids that he already has that good relationship with and rounding out the recruiting class.
Lloyd will be an excellent back up to Armstead and is a pass first PG. His quickness and athletic ability (also a really good football player) will be a tremendous asset to this team. Welcome to Oregon Lloyd!!!

Can he shoot 36 footers off the dribble?
Is he a total liability on defense?
Joking, way to go Dana

Tajuan 2.0?
Should i expect more, less, or the same from Loyd?
I can get you a toe by three o'clock this afternoon.
Totally different. Loyd is a pass first, defensive minded PG. I’m sure he can shoot the 3 (what kid coming out of high school these days can’t). But his play is not anything like TP’s. He is a true point guard and not a shooting 2 guard who’s too short to shoot.
I’d be really surprised if any of his play ever resembled that of TP. It’s not his game.

I can't help but to think of him as a next-gen version of TP. This just may get me killed.

generic basless TP comarison
I love getting a pass first PG. This is just great news, nothing better than a new PG to help lead the charge for the new coach.

Hey guys, did you notice he’s short like Porter?

Reports are out that Brady Heslip (6’2" PG/SG redshirt frosh from Boston College) is looking at moving schools and Oregon is after him too.

because Spike wants to follow a middle aged mid-western white man around.
Half the wheels, twice the alibi.
Great,
It sounds like Altman is salvaging a class this season.
Self-anointed President of the Kenjon Barner fan club.
He's doing more than that. This doesn't look like a salvage job.
Loyd (90) – signed LOI
Polee (92) – had a good weekend in Eugene, will make his decision this week
Munford (40) – interested in visiting and good relationship with Altman
Nared (JC transfer) – Power forward (6’8") has Oregon high on his list
Heslip (91) – looking at tranferring to Oregon now
That’s 3 90+ rankings from Scouts all very interested in Oregon with Altman on the job about a week.

something very very intersting in the possible transfer front too
here’s espn’s article on Lloyd signing
KEY excerpt:
Loyd is a late bloomer in terms of garnering recruiting interest, and it’ll be interesting to see if Oregon also has an interest in his older brother, Michael Loyd Jr., who last week decided to transfer from BYU.
Michael Lloyd is a hell of a player.

Okay, we've come full circle already.

But Terrence Jones is going to come out on Friday
and say “nah, I did all this just to fuck with the Huskies, I hate those bitches,” then sign his LOI with Oregon.

What does it say about a undersized player to be known for his defense? I can understand when a small kid comes out and dazzles with shooting, but after years of watching a small guard contribute little to the defensive end, I don’t know how to wrap my head around a short guy actually playing D.
I also like the fact he played/plays football.
Should mean he’s pretty tough. Wonder if Chip wants to help out and offer the kid a football scholarship to free up an extra one for hoops. Didn’t Jordan Kent do that his senior year???
