Does anyone know why spiking the football is not intentional grounding?
As far as I know, for all intents and purposes, spiking the football is scored as an incomplete pass. However, the pass never crosses the line of scrimmage nor is it intended for a receiver. All this takes place while the quarterback is inside the tackle box. Is there a special technicality regarding spiking the football or am I misinterpreting the rules? Anyone know?
