The 2010 Oregon Ducks: A Team of Destiny.
As national polls everywhere are released, the Oregon Ducks, who were penciled in at the 4 spot in most polls, have fallen to 10th on average in most polls. But, fellow Duck fans, let me tell you exactly why this team will win the National Championship. It involves a little bit of crazy talk, and maybe a little too much belief in this team. But just hear me out.
(Apologies in advance for grammar. And not organizing my thoughts. And for sounding crazy.)
The year is 2007. Dennis Dixon leads the Ducks to an 8-1 record, and a number two national ranking. Everyone knows what happens next. Ask anyone who watched college football that year (except for LSU fans.) and they will say that Dennis Dixon was the best player, and that the Oregon Ducks were the best team.via newnfldraft.com
For history's sake, here is the schedule of the Ducks that year: (table copy/pasted from wikipedia)

As you can see, our non-conference schedule included games against Houston and Fresno State, and @Michigan. Now, back to the team of destiny. Here is our upcoming schedule. (Again, taken from wikipedia. Sorry for how sloppy it looks, but I don't know how to actually make one.

Notice any similarities? Our non conference opponents include games versus New Mexico and Portland State, and @Tennessee. Allow me to compare the two non-conference schedules.
1st Game: (vs. a non-AQ Southwestern team)
2nd Game: (@ a very strong football program in a down swing.)
3rd Game: (vs. a Western non-AQ team)
Now, this is just one of the reasons at to why I'm calling this team the "Team of Destiny." But here's the really scary part. Everyone knows about one stud of a QB we have who may draw close comparisons to Dennis Dixon, and may have torched Boise State in 2008.
via 4horseradio.com
Oh yeah. Dennis Dixon v.2. They look so similar.
How could this team not win the National Title?

Honestly, I highly doubt we win anything more than our conference this year. It’s just not happening, IMO.

Well, my first year in existence saw the Ducks go to the Rose Bowl….Oregon has been pretty damn solid in my lifetime.

As far as I am concerned,
The Ducks have won ten games in every season, ever.
Self-anointed President of the Kenjon Barner fan club.
In my lifetime, we’ve won a conference championship 4 times, been to the Rose Bowl twice, been to a BCS bowl 4 times, we’ve had 8 seasons of 9 or more wins, and only one losing season.
Pretty freaking amazing if you consider the program’s history.

4 BCS Bowls?
So even if you count the ‘94 Rose (which was pre-BCS), I’ve got two Roses and a Fiesta. That’s three.
The Cotton Bowl is not BCS. Yet.

Ah, this is what happens when I try to pull facts from my brian and don’t look up stuff. 3 BCS bowls (including the ’94 Rose Bowl).

Yeah, and I pretty much illustrated my point my referring to my brain as my “brian”.
Must have been that 2 hours of chem. homework. Mind if I just start faxing my stuff to you so the Mrs. can do it for me?

I think Brian needs a rest.
1. The 1994 Rose Bowl was played between Wisconsin and UCLA. Oregon was in the 1995 Rose Bowl.
2. The Rose Bowl didn’t become a “BCS bowl” until 1998.
I prefer to say we’ve been in 4 New Years Day bowl games, including 2 Rose Bowls, a Fiesta Bowl and a Cotton Bowl, in your lifetime. Seems more impressive that way (of course it would be more impressive if the record was better than 1-3, but at least we got there).
Average Score Since 2004: Oregon 42 Washington 17
I like this new Brian knickname.
Less cutting than Numbnuts, which was worn out anyway.
Brian it is.

But the thing about Numbnuts was that it went so well with Namedrop. ‘Namedrop and Numbnuts’. And since when are you concerned about something being too ‘cutting’? Is this the new, kinder, gentler Bill Musgrave?
Also, Brian will get too confusing with that freaky stranger that hijacked cougfan’s account and appears to be attempting to take over his identity and live his life (I saw this on a soap opera once). I really hope he didn’t kill cougfan and leave him in a ditch in Spokane – or that he didn’t get abducted and held captive for 5 years by Stephano Dimera.
But if Numbnuts needs to be retired, we might just consider calling him TQA8 (weird, I know).

I think we can find out if cougfan and this new “Brian” guy are actually the same guy, or if he got hijacked.
We put him directly in between Pullman and Moscow, and tell him they had free beer in Moscow and cheap beer in Pullman. If he goes to Pullman, he’s an impostor, trying to convince us he’s a “True Coug’”. If he goes to Moscow, he’s an actual Wazzu Cougar fan. They’ll never turn down a chance to drink beer.

I'm not saying you have to retire anything, I'm just creating options.
Like when, just a few hours after Human Vuvuzela was revived, you piped up with Worm.
I like that option for the Axeman: The Worm.
It’s good to have options.

I vote no on Worm. Worm was Edward Norton’s character’s name on Rounders, easily one of the greatets movies of all time. We can’t allow axemen to have this cool of an association.
And in the Yell-O corner, with a 2009 conference record of 8 wins, 1 loss...the REIGNING...DEFENDING...UNDISPUTED Champions of the PAC TEN...the Oregon Ducks!

My point was that going into the season expecting to win the Pac-10 (only!) is still pretty new. I’m not one of the old timers who remembers the 1-11 days, but damn, going into the 2010 season as a favorite to DEFEND the Pac-10 crown is pretty exciting.
Mediocracy is all we'l alway's get with UO football
After 46 yrs of being a die hard Duck football fan,i truly believe that our Fiesta Bowl victory over Colorado with Harrington and Company. Is a good as we’l ever get!
All the talent that has come and gone over the past 15yrs here at the UO football program and we still can NOT get past the last level of the Great collegiate football platform.
We will never see even a perfect undefeated Pac=10 season let alone any NC game for Ducks football program. We have all the talent, coaching staff(except Allioti)and world class backing ($$$$$$$$ NIKE) and fan support and of course 2nd to none facilities.
Even with all of these assets going for the Ducks, what’s keeping us from getting to that platform and succeeding?
Here’s my hint: We’re constantly settling for MEDIOCRACY at all costs"!
Doubt me? Just take a look at all the programs in our conference that Have run the conference table: USC/UCLA/UW/Stanford/WSU! What is the problem with the DUCKS and Beavers???
Last Rose Bowl UO played not a great or really good Buckeye team, but a Mediocre Buckeye team, and again,Oregon just had to puke out and CHOKE.Even as being Total favorite’s to win the Rose Bowl.
That was with Blount/LMJ/Masoli/and Company!!!
I predict a 4-5 win season for the Ducks in 2010 season. This talk that the Ducks will see 10 victories or more,is all HYPE and wishful dreaming. No next higher level for ducks, not this year, not EVER.And that’s a LONG LONG LONG time!
Finaly,as a realist, not the preverbial emotionalist,Chip Kelly bails on UO program within next 3yrs.Gone by 2013.Ducks need to finaly get a Real Defensive coach, cut Allioti loose. The guy sucks.
