Dennis Dixon to get snaps with first-team offense Sunday night for Pittsburgh Steelers.
"I intend to give Dennis Dixon some looks with the first group against some good people," [Head Coach Mike] Tomlin said. "I think he's earned that likewise. And that's what this preseason is all about."

It's really the OC Arians that has his head in the sand.
But yes, Tomlin runs the ship and could influence more.
I am a patient boy, I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
Agreed
Arians is complete moron, and this entire head up his ass process has completely proven that once again. I can’t wait until he’s not coaching next year.

Could you be a little more direct, I can't tell how you feel.
Free yourself, let your feelings roam the plains like Dennis Dixon’s game.

Last year’s Dixon vs. the Ravens game was so damn painful. It was like they wrote up a game plan designed to give Baltimore an advantage. Whenever they broke from that script, Dixon made plays. Now they complain that he’s running when he has people open downfield, which I understand is something he needs to work on, but he’s picking up first downs and doing it without getting hit. If he was rushing 3 yards and sliding to the hash like Mark Sanchez it would be dumb. Sure, he missed a couple passes in the preseason, but he still moved the chains and didn’t put himself at risk.
I’m starting to think that he’s not playing because they don’t know how to draw up plays for a guy who doesn’t take sacks.

The problem is
he’s rushing sometimes too much against 2nd and 3rd string defenses that he should be trying to learn to stand in the pocket and find guys open down field. Add to that, the moron OC ran absolutely no roll outs or designed plays outside the pocket for him before and is now putting him outside the pocket every chance he gets.
All in all, Dixon is doing to 2nd and 3rd string defenses exactly what a starter in the NFL should be doing to 2nd and 3rd string defenses – tearing them apart. I know DD is going to have to ride the pine another year, but he’s going to get his shot to start in the NFL sooner rather than later.
Arians is just being dumb about him not starting for Pitt.

Agreed. Why draft a player like Dixon with amazing dual threat ability, only to expect him to be more of a pocket passer? It seems obvious to me that Dixon thrived in Chip Kelly’s system during the ’07 season. If you are not wiling to adjust your offense to maximize the potential of a player like Dixon, then why is he on your team? Poor coaching at best.

I understand that you’re not going to change your offense for Dixon to run the spread, or the zone read, or turn everything upside down just to suit his running ability. But at least make him comfortable, give him some run / pass options, get him out of the pocket and away from the blitz, and play to his strengths.
I read an interview where the OC told him not to run, and Big Ben told him to run whenever he had the chance. So what’s he supposed to do?

I read the the same article. Must be a frustrating spot for Dixon to be in. Again, if you’re not willing to tweak the offense slightly for Dixon, then why draft him? I think we are saying the same thing here in different ways. Definitely disappointing to watch as Dixon’s god given talents are basically being squandered.

Dixon’s god given talents are basically being squandered.
Not necessarily. He’s been on a consistent playoff team that has won a super bowl. Plus, he’s been able to watch a top 5 QB in the league for 3+ years, and gotten to talk to one of the best mentoring QB in the league in Charlie Batch.
That’s valuable experience which goes a long way in the NFL. The sad part is the only way I’ll get to watch all that get put to good use will be on a different team.

I read one interesting article a while back that wondered if Tomlin doesn’t expect to start Dixon after all. But he makes him fight hard for the job and take it from Leftwitch, so in the end he’s actually been through the fire and toughened up, instead of being handed a job simply because he’s number two on the list.
I don’t know about that because they are paying Leftwitch money, which is really dumb if they don’t expect him to play. But if Dixon DOES win the starting job with a big performance tomorrow, maybe he raises eyebrows all over the league and becomes the next Matt Cassell, the only difference being that Dixon is actually good at football.
Yeah I knew that. Two of my Uncles are big time Steelers fans so they are kind of my second team when it comes to the NFL and they despise Arians because he is a dumb*ss but I felt like you said that Tomlin should of stepped in and had Dixon take more snaps then Statue of Liberwich. A lot of Steeler fans can’t stand Arians from what I understand. I guess at there SB Parade a couple years ago he was the only one people wouldn’t cheer and people were yelling at him because they would rather run the ball then pass.
It’ll be on Fox nation wide FWIW

even though it's preseason I'm stoked.
