A ludicrous idea, but fun to ponder

I posted this comment in a different forum in reply to the statement

"The SEC champ should automatically be declared the BCS champ"

To which I replied: "Perhaps the national champion should just be whoever SEC champ is by default? The BCS title game can just be discontinued, And the other AQ conferences will just have a playoff for their own national championship. Then the SEC can pay it's players, and their exclusive league/BCS system can be a sort of 'feeder league' for the NFL. Bam. done. Everybody is happy. We get our own tv networks, And don't have to engage in un-winnable online squabbles."

But then I got to thinking "what if there was a major split in the conference BCS alignment & tv network collaboration?

It seems to be feasible. I just bring it up for discussion. We have a lot of time to kill.
