An open letter to the Duck community, from your favorite Bronco alum (and not so closet Duck fan)
This letter is in 2 parts: First, a personal thank you for beating the Stanford Cardinal and the cocky QB known as Andrew Luck. Second, a question about campus and downtown (I haven't been there since 2000).
Thank you so much for beating the overrated team that is Stanford. People who read this statement will look at me and say "yeah, but you're beloved overrated Donkies just lost to TCU." Yes I know, but having been to 2 road games already with a 3rd coming up, I knew this team shouldn't be in a BCS bowl (they're a good team this year, but not a great team). That being said, you managed to make Andrew Luck essentially single-handedly lose the game for the Cardinal (2 pics, 1 of them being a pic-6, a fumble for a TD etc...). And yes, LMJ should be easily in the top 5 for Heisman candidates (even with missing 2 games). Also, thank you for continuing to have the best looking unis (for the most part) in the Pac12. Worst uni matchup had got to be last night: ASU vs WSU.
Now on a completely different note: my sister is looking to go to UO for undergrad. She will DEFINITELY GO if the scholarship money comes (duh). My questions are these, how has Downtown and the campus changed in the last 10-15 years (Google Earth can only show me so much). Where are good places to eat (is TrackTown Pizza still there?) and so on and so forth. For those of you asking why I'm not forcing her to go to BSU, it's because this is where she really wants to go, she was born there (although Boise is her second choice). Comments below are appreciated.
Once again, my profound thanks and Go Ducks,
greekpadre

It hasn't changed all that much that I can tell.
And yes, TTP is still there.

Thanks for the note, greekpadre.
I’ve only been around for a few years, so I can’t say how the scene has changed in the last 10-15, but yes, TrackTown is indeed still there.
Good places to eat around campus: We had this discussion in the morning quack fix a few weeks back, so let me see if I can recreate it at all.
TrackTown Pizza
Maple Garden (Chinese food)
Caspian (Mediterranean food)
Campus Sub Shop
Tasty Thai Campus
Cafe Sienna (Mexican food)
Bamboo Garden (Indian food)
Cafe Yumm (hard to classify, probably easiest to call it “vegetarian food”)
There are a few other restaurants like these, as well as your standard chain restaurants (Qdoba, Quiznos, Dairy Queen, Subway). Also, these are primarily the restaurants that are near my corner of campus, so I’m not terribly well-versed in what else is offered around the perimeter of campus. Good luck with the scholarship chases!

I liked both ASU’s and WSU’s uniforms the other night. WSU’s primer grey helmets match parts of the camaros parked in their front yards

Campus food has fallen off the past few months.
We had the misfortune of having Bombay Palace go under recently, so the best campus restaurant is gone now. The best food in Eugene right now is at best a few blocks and at worst a few miles from campus, but there are a few on campus non-fast food choices.
Campus:
Glenwood – American
Korea House
Miso – Sushi
Evergreen – Indian
Holy Cow – Vegetarian, but really good any way
Barry’s – Jewish sandwich shop
Sweet Basil – Thai/Southeast Asian
Off Campus there’s far more choice, but most are quite far away, in the Whitaker
Burger Lovers – Awesome burgers, better korean food.
Papa’s Soul Food – the end all be all of a big awesome meal in Eugene.
Ta ra Rin – Thai
Toshi’s Ramen
I could really go on for days. Just encourage her to go farther than Ferry street once a week, and she’ll find awesome food.
Some off-campus spots
-I really like Agate Alley on 19th and Agate. Chill sit-down spot w/ good variety on the menu. After living on that side of campus for a couple years Agate Alley became one of my go-to spots.
-Cheba Hut on 11th and High(?) is a pretty good sub shop, despite the over-the-top weed references.
-Turtles is good over on Willamette. American cuisine
-Papa’s Soul Food is truly the pinnacle of BBQ in Eugene IMO.
-Humble Bagel on 24th and Hilyard, good bagel/sandwiches. You can bring your dog!
-Steelhead pub – DUH!
-Dog in a Box, good hot dogs. behind Safeway, on 17th.
Also hit up the Hot Dog Lady on 13th and Kincaid for an in between-class bite. She is soooo nice.

. . . must try to avoid snarky comment about ingratiating BSU fan . . . I worked in Eugene in 2003 and get back there 3-4 times a year. The City has grown up a considerable bit in the last decade, but as qrsouther points out downtown Eugene isn’t exactly the gaslight district in San Diego. There are a lot more mid/high end condo/townhouse type developments in or near downtown than there were 10 years ago. It livens the place up a bit.
About resturants, I’m a little old school and still hit up Mekala’s (Thai) and OES whenever I’m there for dinner.
Good luck to your sister.
Congrats on having such a smart sister!
May she enjoy U of O as much as I did!!
VooDoo doughnuts…real food.
Would your sister be at all willing to go out on a date with axemen23?
Things like that.

whoa whoa whoa...ease up...ax might get his chance
But I’m not sure how he is around prideful Greek women (with an older more vengeful brother).
You know, I’d also wait for sure to make sure she actually goes there
