That was horrible clock management. 30-40 seconds wasted because of the refusal to use timeouts. That was all on you, Chip.

Well, him and Monte. Our offense looked confused, we didn’t go to the uptempo until the 4th Q, they were able to move the ball all day long and Aliotti’s defense was just gashed and gashed, and only bailed out by USC’s mistakes.
Lee is great. Barkley is good. But our keys were to get pressure (we didn’t), stop their big receivers (best game of their career) and not make mistakes. On offense, we got cute and then were too far behind for it to matter.

CHip made some mistakes but he’s objectively a great coach.
As Oregon’s o line keeps getting better they’ll continue to roll bad teams and start to really roll good teams.

He got outcoached by Les Miles and Lane Kiffen. I’m not sure how great that makes him.
The clock management was a huge problem. Making it your decision to go for 3 was a big issue. Both are on him. The last drive more than anything – against USC who could move at will against you – was clearly a win now drive. Play for the win.
I think he’s a good coach, but this iis the first time I wonder if he’s a great coach.

Do you remember how it was over there under Belotti? And then how things got WAY better once Chip got there? Ducks are nationally known now. 2 BCS bowls. Don’t act like Boise State and melt down every time you lose a game against a good opponent :(

I think we've been in that situation before
And been okay.
I am not calling 5 fumbles our coaches’ fault. I’m calling going 3 and out a few times our fault. I’m calling things like a downtempo attack our fault. I’m calling getting cute when we were able to run on them at will for the last two years our fault.
I do think Chip Kelly is a great coach, but there was a big glaring flaw at the end of the game.
The entire Oregon staff, from top to bottom
is the best on college football.
It is fine to be pissed about clock mgmt in this case but it doesn’t take away all the amazing things this group of coaches have accomplished.
I have to keep reminding myself: THIS IS THE OREGON DUCKS!!!! (we sucked when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s (and before). NEVER would I have thought we’d ever be playing for the Natty.

I want to call timeout – there are such things as 30 second timeouts – to stop the clock. It’s not that weird of a concept. We did the same thing, except we did it with incompletes and bad plays. It’s not like we were running 10 second plays at the end there.

With the fact that we went for the field goal and had to because we only had 20 seconds at the 25 yard line – and wasted 6 seconds passing the ball out of bounds?

The only real mistake on that last drive was the checkdown to Tuinei which was obviously not going to go anywhere

I am less upset than I thought I would be. Good fight, only lost by 3. I hate that USC was the team we lost to, but we still get the Rose Bowl. 3rd straight Pac Championship, etc etc.
We’ve got so much to look forward to. This year was a “Rose Bowl first” year, and we’ve managed to accomplish that. Next year will be a wonderful year in which we stomp the QB-less sanction-hammered Trojans, along with DT and one of the best WR corps in the Pac. This year is just as wonderful, with another chance at the Roses if we beat the Beavs.

Played their hearts out. If only we hadn’t turned the ball over in the red zone twice, we’d be skipping right now. But so it goes. Incredibly proud of the team for not giving up when almost half this blog had.
Saw DAT meeting his former teammates/friends after the game, was nice to see them all smiling.

We made so many mistakes
It’s a credit to our poise that we were able to come back at all. Sad that we lost, but oh well, we found out we can’t play like shit for most of the game and expect to win. This team has some serious heart though.

I’m not saying that we didn’t make mistakes, but the notion that our offense got us back in the game is silly. If they score at the end there – heck, if they just run a bunch of time off – we lose. If they force us to go for the TD to win, we lose. If they score the TD we really lose.
I agree that our red zone turnovers were costly – but so were theirs.
It was the o that went tearing down the field like the unstoppable juggernaut they ordinarily are. But yes that did help.

Only problem is that our "unstoppable juggernaut" was stopped.
The point was, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity with out the mistakes by USC in the fourth. That’s all.

I took the entire game to finally get the offense in rhythm, where they play at there best, and you want to disrupt that? Isn’t it likely that we were more likely to score by keeping the tempo than by calling TO’s simply because that’s the “accepted norm?”

we can run our offense. I think Chip was right to keep the pressure up, but there were at least two times when I screamed “TIMEOUT” at my TV, and just watched as the seconds ticked away.

I didn't mind most of the drive
I thought the first down before the throw out of bounds needed a timeout though, that was stupid. We wasted a play on that.
