Quack Fix: Worn out Ducks fall to Huskies, Baseball gets back to .500
The Ducks national title run came up 8 games short, but it was fun while it lasted.
- The Ducks fell to the Huskies 69-51, but the final score isn't all that indicative of how the game went. The Ducks looked tired the entire game, but still had the game within 4 with ten minutes to go in the game. But they just didn't have the energy or shooting ability to keep up with the Huskies. The Ducks shot 7/22 from three point range on the game, and only 40% from the field. It wasn't an example of great defense by Washington though. Oregon just missed open shot after open shot. The Ducks had their opportunities. At one point, Washington did not score for a 5 minute stretch, but the worn out Duck legs just couldn't get the ball into the basket. We knew that the Ducks would have to play their best to get to the finals, and they just didn't have it last night. But despite the fatigue, they never gave up. They played hard on both ends of the floor, and they really had no business being in the game as long as they did. But it was a great year.
- Oregon baseball has gotten off to a rocky start, but they have now won two in a row and are back at .500. The 4-2 victory last night over BYU was led by Madison Boer, who has been on fire this season. Boer got his 4th straight quality start, though he gave up one earned run, which raised his ERA to 0.58. Boer work with a one-run lead most of the game, but gave up one in the 8th and had to leave the game tied. But the Ducks took advantage of BYU miscues to score 3 in the 8th and secure the W.
If you've got any other quack leave it below. Have a great weekend everyone. GO DUCKS!

Not a bad run.
We’ve had plenty of better men’s hoops teams, but the guys competed as hard this season as any other Duck team I can remember. What an impact Dana Altman has had in less than a year. It’s hard to imagine the Ducks not being a legit threat to get back to the big dance in the next year or two. What a far cry from where we were the past couple of seasons.
Maybe another CBI game or two?
Cal Bears football... Doing less with more since 2002.
Oh, and props to Joevan Catron. What a fantastic senior season.

Remember when people were pissed that he got his Medical Redshirt?
yeaaahhh, we’re all dunces.

except, you know, those of us that weren't pissed
Granted, nobody thought he would do what he did this season. But, knowing how thin we were, I still can’t believe people didn’t want him back.

And the Oregon Track Women's team
is closing in on a second consecutive National Championship in indoor track.
Go Ducks!
Moseley updates including info on the QB position.
With Randall out, sound like they’re bringing in a preferred walk-on to round out the QB depth chart, and Rob is projecting Mariota as the #3 on the travel team. News also on a potential ’12 QB recruit who has the Jeff Maehl seal of approval.
I don't understand
Why don’t we just go out and buy another five star recruit because that’s totally how Oregon built this program i know because two bald clowns said so on the internet blaaaaaaaaargh
At the very least
You didn’t watch the worst offensive performance of all-time…

Baseball is back above .500 after a 10-0 win.
In seven innings, Christian Jones struck out 13, allowing just three hits and one walk (and of course, no runs).
In track news, Jordan Hasay is awesome.
She’s a double NCAA champion, winning both the mile and the 3000m today.
From the post-race interview: “How does it feel to have won both the mile and the 3000m in one day?” “Well, I can’t feel my calves at all.”
The end of the 3000m was awesome. With 25 or so to go, she turned and saw Sheila Reid (who beat her out on the last leg of the Medley yesterday). Her expression just turned to “FUCK. NO.” and she just charged to the finish line for the win.
Also, the announcers are very enamored of the fact that we did the “Come to Ore-gon” chant for her.
I love Gus Johnson
He almost made that fuskie victory bearable. Almost.

Yes, it was such an awful game to watch....
… third game in three days, tired legs and all that.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
If Catron's twitter is any indication, the ducks either won't accept a CBI bid, or wont take one.
@StayFresh34 It’s Been A very loving time being a Duck!!! I enjoyed every minute of it. Love to all my fans!!!! Go Duck Nation. “Keep Grinding”

Next year, the Pac-12 will bring prestige back to the west coast in basketball.
I think 6 teams get a bid, maybe 5.
Discuss.

UW, Arizona, UCLA seem to be locks
Oregon, WSU, USC and Colorado should be in the mix
The "Bill Simmons" of ATQ
I think we'll take 20 games next year. That should be a bid if we don't lay an egg in the tournament.
Here’s a question: which will happen first?
a) Football wins a National Championship?
or…
b) Basketball gets back to the Sweet 16?

Basketball to the Sweet 16 is more likely
Football’s got a narrow window AND needs a lot to go right, like last year, just to get there.
The "Bill Simmons" of ATQ
Why does football have a narrow window?
Is it September yet?

There’s a lot more turnover in Basketball player-wise and program-wise than in Football. You have to bust down the door to the top to have a shot in hell at getting to the NCG, then you have to fend off all the other programs that aren’t in the top 10 tradition-wise who will always get a nudge in the polls for it.
In basketball, you have ample opportunity, with a good team, to make a run in March.
The "Bill Simmons" of ATQ
That doesn't mean we have a narrow window.
Is it September yet?

I tend to agree.
In basketball, one player can radically change the outcome of an entire season. Football, not so much.
There are just more variables in football than there are in basketball.
Self anointed President of the Kenjon Barner fan club.
I agree
I think if we played the game at Cal 10 times we probably lose 8 of them, not because they’re better but because sometimes the upset vibe is in the air and you need luck (no, not Andrew) to escape with a W. Even in the best football season of all time we still had one damn close call and our bowl game, which was so tight, came down to a few really flukey plays that made the difference.
Football is a lot of fun because on any given day crazy shit can happen.
I'd be surprised if one or both of the NoCal schools weren't making noise.
… UW will have a lot of talent on the perimeter, but no big men who can hold their own on the offensive side. they might regress.
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
I really don't think we'll get there next year.

Got a chance to see the campus this weekend
Felt right at home. Chills went down my spine when I drove past Autzen when I was driving to Casanova for this meeting that I had there. I now understand the parking/driving problem as well. Saw the first few innings of the BYU-UO game this afternoon, really loved PK Park… it seems that they were expecting some rain when they designed the field though. Really loved everything about Eugene and the University, can’t wait for orientation.

Orientation is pretty darn boring.
The first weekend here is really fun though! Classes haven’t started yet, and you are free to do whatever you can get away with.

Yeah
I plan on getting on campus sometime early September (got to work/go to football games), so I might be all alone in Carson for a month if they even allow me to stay up there that early.

Are they still doing IntroDucktion mid summer?
I got busted in the dorms for drinking beer out of a frisbee. I’m not even sure how we got caught. But what a terrifying moment. I was called into the office of some high ranking staffer and had to apologize. I even had to attend the infamously boring, 8 hour long Busted! class my first weekend in school. What a way to start. Enter with style, exit with class, is how my experience at UO can be summed up.
I’m not sure how you get busted for drinking alcohol before even being officially enrolled in a school; but I found a way. Anyway, have fun getting used to things!

There are actually quite a few sessions.
You have about 5 or 6 different time slots to choose from, all in mid-summer.

Yeah. You should probably be able to register after submitting your intent to register.
I don’t exactly remember when you have to do that, but soon thereafter you should be able to register for introDUCKtion.

8 hours?
Yikes. That class is only 2 hours now.

The extra hours have something to do with the use of a frisbee… just saying
by Josh Schlichter on Mar 13, 2011 12:32 PM PDT up reply actions
I suppose.
But it was in the name of science! I had heard that you could fit 5 full beers in a regulation frisbee. I cried impossible and so, as the strong students we were about to become, we decided to have an experiment.
After we concluded that the statement was true, I thought it would be a shame to waste part of the experiment. After all, we used a drinkable elixir that makes you smarter; not a caustic acid that’s deleterious to your health. Hooray beer in frisbees (and subsequent 8 hour classes as a result of drinking said beer and getting caught).
