Free . . . UCLA Baseball and Twilight Meet Tickets

We have two seats to the Saturday (5/7) and Sunday (5/8) baseball games against UCLA (sections 8 and 7) and two seats to the Twilight Meet on Friday (5/6 in section A on the finish line). I am interested only in having someone use the tickets and am not interested in money.

If you are interested, I can mail them (my email in is in profile) or email them (the baseball tickets are print at home).

I was listening to The Herd this morning and he gave a shout out to Jeff.

Colin said that he would become a great 3rd WR and he compared Jeff favorably to Jordan Shipely. He had a lot of praise for Jeff and considers him a steel in the later rounds.

Spring Game Weather

Linky link
We’re looking at about 50ish degrees, partly cloudy. WIth a little wind from the north, at around 12 MPH, and 10% chance of precipitation.

Sound like it could shape up to be a cool yet nice day in Eugene.

Whenever I think of that game, I think of all the missed opportunities – if Tuinei had just gotten three more yards on that catch, if we hadn’t gotten a false start penalty deep in our own territory, if HIS DAMN KNEE HAD GONE TWO INCHES LOWER.

Just thinking about it makes me angry. No way I could watch it again.

I think

the Tuinei catch is the one that tears me up the most. Every time I think about it I can’t help but think if he just would have gotten it into the endzone (which I totally thought he was going to at the time), we’d have won the game. Gah.

by daisyduck on Apr 28, 2011 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s the whole package of suck. First, it’s a great play. At the time, it got me all excited and I didn’t think twice about the fact that he didn’t get in the end zone. Of course we were going to score!

And then seeing the next four plays fail completely. And then knowing that we lost by three points. I have replayed that in my mind a hundred times since the game.

It's kind of important to read defenses and to be accurate in the NFL.

A lot of his success was derived from his ability to run. He was bigger and faster than a lot of college players. That won’t be the case in the NFL.

Sark is a very good quarterback coach, and I’m pretty sure that if Locker couldn’t be accurate or read defenses in the Pac-10, he won’t in the NFL.

But...

I think Locker is a good fit for Titans because he has the ability to run, to be honest I think Sark should have taken Locker’s legs into account more often instead of just running QB draws. You’re right if you tell me Locker isn’t a pro-style, I would agree with that. He throws much better on the run, something like 75% completion while on the run…I definately understand any of you Ducks not liking him for being a Husky, but I just think that he can progress. that they just jettisoned a player that was a run-throw combo in college, could make dynamic plays here and there, but had major issues with accuracy and consistency, then drafted the white version of said cut player.

I think

more of the reason behind VY being cut or traded is because he’s becoming too much of a liability. Troubles with police and mental problems kind of stopped him from performing on the field and became a distractiong to the team. I think what they see in Locker is someone who is much tougher physically and is more well rounded and obviously a much more humbled person. If they can help him with his accuracy, he’s going to be successful no doubt. Until then, he has one of the best RB’s in the NFL.

Your attempt at throwing a Bundy joke in there was a definate fail. My point is, those things are coachable and already in the combine after working with a quarterback coach his accuracy seemed to have improved. Things need to be taken into account such as the weak o-line, playing a record amound of freshmen, NO t/e. It was pretty simple for defenses considering they knew he was going to throw to wideouts because he didn’t have any other option. He couldn’t make a simple 8-10yrd pass due to no t/e.

by jo503hn on Apr 29, 2011 12:45 AM PDT reply actions

excuses, excuses

I’m tired of Jake Locker excuses. I know the 0-12 season wasn’t his fault because he was injured.. right? or the fact that he didn’t make a bowl game in his junior year because of the new coach/bad line play/terrible receivers/no running game et al. Or that his QB rating and passing efficiency was 8th in the Pac 10 and behind such NFL hopefuls as Steven Threet and Ryan Katz this year because of EVERYONE ELSE on his team and not him.

Give me a break. I’ll take a nonathletic QB that can read defenses and throws accurately over a super athlete that can’t read a cover two, and couldn’t hit a consistent out route any day of the week. It’s the difference between Peyton Manning and Vince Young. Or Matt Cassell and Jamarcus Russell.

But wait...

He did succeed. His last 4 games were wins including the Holiday Bowl over a team that demolished them in the regular season. He was also just a top 10 draft pick. But hey, it was all the Lions fault Joey Heisman was a bad NFL qb right? Neither of us know what the outcome of Locker’s NFL career will be. It’s just amusing that so many ducks think they know already and they only think so due to him being a Husky.
Also, look at MACstoli for example, with the ducks he wins…with ole miss, not so much. Without the surrounding talent, ONE person can only do so much.

It appears to me that UW won IN SPITE of Locker, not because of him. But don’t let facts get in the way of your ignorance.

What

does MACstoli’s stats have to do with it? Isn’t the win column the most important, right? That shows everything about the quarterback, doesn’t it? So answer, what’s your excuse why Joey wasn’t a good NFL qb? Because of the team? I might be a Husky, but I’m not blind to the facts, I’ll be real quick to admit Locker’s faults, I only say there are reasons behind it that don’t entirely fall on his shoulders. As well as, Locker’s accuracy can improve just as that guy named Favre’s did. Like I said, nobody knows Locker’s outcome. That’s like me saying Blount shouldn’t have been drafted due to him being considered a risk because of his attitude or because he’s a duck. Personally, I felt he was full of talent and was pissed the Seahawks didn’t pick him up. Once again, I’m not blind to the facts.

by jo503hn on Apr 29, 2011 1:20 AM PDT up reply actions

Not blind to the facts?

Then explain how in those 4 season ending wins Locker had a QB rating of 65.3 or lower in 2 of them? You ignore the facts that Locker was inaccurate, inconsistent, and really not a very good QB. Yet we’re unsure of his potential at the highest level against the best talent? Please.

As for Joey, who knows? I don’t know what the Lion’s problem was, I don’t follow them. I don’t know if they had defense issues, if there was inconsistency in the coaching, if there were terrible receivers, or bad front office moves, etc. I know he had all the tools to succeed and didn’t. He was accurate in college, he was consistent in college. He won in college… including a BCS game. Rarely does a QB not have those things and succeed.

Once again, bring me facts and not, “a future coach can train him better” hypotheticals. That’s the same thing I heard when Sark was hired, only Locker got worse year over year. Go ahead and give me the excuse on why it will be different this time.

Your opinion on the matter was made before attempting to understand what I’m saying. I guess at the end of the day, he still helped the team win the last 4 games, won a bowl game, finished 3rd in the Pac, and was a top 10 draft pick. I’m not here to bash the ducks or any of that, so I definately don’t want it to go there…I think we can at least agree on our feelings about Cam and what his NFL future seems to be….

That already happened one year… we call it 2008.

Your opinion on the matter was made before attempting to understand what I’m saying.

You’ve given me nothing but opinion and hypothetical on the matter. Go ahead, show me how I’m wrong? Link me to FACTS that his o-line was younger or less experienced, show me how his receivers dropped more passes, tell me how the running game regressed. You can’t, you just have gut “husky intuition” that if just given the right opportunity, he’ll do better. Only history has shown that to be false.

This isn’t plain Locker hate I’m spewing. This is grounded in the fact that he’s not a very good QB. The fact that he’s not a very good QB and a husky just makes it that much funnier to me.

I’m glad you’ve continued to hitch your hopes wagon to Locker as he’ll continue to let you down far after he’s a husky. You’ll always have those 4 games to look back on with love, I’ll have the 20 other.

I’m not really the type to post links but here is just an example of one if you’d like…
http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2010/12/31/1905817/jake-locker-vs-nebraska

Here’s a little from the site:
Current Assessment: I’ve seen all but one of Jake Locker’s games, and I haven’t given up stock on him yet. I think his ball placement has been fine. By my count, Husky receivers have dropped 41 catchable passes (eg: hit in hands). By comparison, I’ve seen all of Andrew Luck, and Stanford receivers have dropped 17 passes by my count. If you drop Locker’s totals to 20, his completion percentage going into the Holiday Bowl would be over 60%.

Not to mention the times he’s just had to throw it out due to having no options. Say what you want, but it’s not ALL on him. You already blamed the 2008 losses on him regardless of him not even playing…

Well actually

I live in Keizer, MOST of my friends are duck fans due to living here, and believe it or not I actually like watching the ducks play. i have nothing against the players or even Kelly, as arrogant as he is. So what you’re doing is quickly judging me just because I say I am a Husky fan. I was born and raised to be a Dawg, just as maybe you might have been to be a Duck. The thing is, I’m not going to say something about the player due to the team they may go to. I love Unger for the Seahawks and I also love Thurmond, they were both Ducks. I also wanted Blount to be picked up by the Seahawks and think it’s insane he went undrafted. My question was, why is it funny that the Titans picked him up? You guys were either going to laugh if he wasn’t drafted in the 1st round and say, “I told you so” or do what is being done now, and laugh and say, “It’s funny because he’s been picked too early”. I’m not an unreasonable Husky fan, I’ve never logged onto this blog and bashed anyone personally, not even a Duck player. I stook up for LMJ when people I know would say garbage about him, I thought Blount shouldn’t have been suspended so long and well…actually found it funny because that idiot approached him for the sole purpose of starting crap. I also wanted you guys to beat down Auburn and $cam Newton who I hate more than any Duck fan or player I’ve ever come across. So honestly, I am unbiased. As far as the comment below saying I’m a clown comparing MACstoli and Locker, no…I’m comparing situations. Locker would be considered more of a winner with more developed players around him. MACstoli was a pre-season heisman consideration, he wasn’t really all that bad. I understand Locker is probably the most hyped football of ALL time, I understand that he’s a Husky so there’s a natural hate for him. But there’s an exaggeration of how much should be put on Locker considering the inconsistent stability regarding the coaching staff, the style of offense(which the pro-style holds him back in my opinion), the lack of developed players. Don’t like him all you want and even laugh about it I guess, I just don’t see how it’s funny, considering Harrington was clearly a proven winner in college, was drafted very early, and turned out to be the biggest draft bust next to Russell. None of us know how he’s going to end up…

Look at your own comments. Yeah Locker has accuracy issues, but that’s not his fault… blah blah blah

What I’m actually laughing at is you’re trying to sell your somehow an unbiased, objective, observer, yet you can’t steer away from degenerative nicknames and labeling.

Aligning one’s support for another is not the same as removing influences that could potentially be unfair. You are a husky fan. Maybe a fair-minded, reasonable, or mostly objective husky fan, but a husky fan nonetheless. You have a preference towards a particular perspective.

I’m not calling you names, or saying it’s wrong to be bias (It’s only natural, after all), but you are presenting counter-arguments with a preference of a particular perspective on a blog created and catered to those with an opinion that has a natural opposition.

Haha

well said JShufelt. Clearly no one is going to buy what I am selling, which I am fine with. But facts are also facts. Gruden stated that he counted at least 66 passes in which the reciever had their hands ON the ball let alone, the amount that HAD to be thrown out of bounds due to defense covering recievers. I think you guys are assuming I’m saying he’s perfect. He wasn’t 100% inaccurate, there were REAL issues that were not on him whether you want to believe it or not, and I guess at the end of the day, he did finish with a winning season, won a bowl game, UW finished 3rd in the Pac after being in the basement for 6yrs, and Locker was picked within the top 10, so I have alot to be happy for right now. But, I assure you I’m not biased, I even want to a Duck game this last season due to my buddy having an extra ticket and believe it or not, I even wore yellow(Thursday night Duck/weasle game) and enjoyed being at Autzen, it was an awesome experience, when I wasn’t having to plug my ears ;)
Again, I just don’t see the pick being funny or him being THAT bad of a QB, but to each his own.

You're not getting the point.

Let me make it clear for you. Masoli was the pretty much the same QB at Ole Miss as he was at Oregon… not very good.

So Oregon won IN SPITE of Masoli, just like UW did last year with Locker.

Locker’s team actually improved even though his stats declined and they weren’t very good to begin with. He hasn’t won a lot of games, his stats are below average, he can’t read defenses very well, makes poor decisions, throws inaccurately…

Should I list the QB busts in the NFL that had even one of these deficiencies going in? I know, I know there are excuses for that.

He a good guy. I get that. He has above average athletic ability for a QB. Check and check. He’s not a very good QB. End of story. The fact he’s a husky, not a very good QB, and drafted high? Even funnier.

If you don’t understand why, explaining all of the reasons to you would probably be worthless.

Dude, this joker comparing Locker to Masoli. Masoli won’t sniff the NFL. I mean, doesn’t that pretty much say it all?

Locker was the 3rd best player on his team, and the team had to stop relying on him to win games. I don’t wish ill of him, he seems like a good guy. But he’s just not a good QB.

More facts…

I know it’s about Masoli and Harrington though… right?

This is going to be

pointless going back and forth…like I said, both opinions are not going to change.

P.S. You’re right his accuracy will improve when he goes from throwing in a pressure situation with new receivers at a combine to throwing with guys he’s familiar with and has practiced with in a team workout on campus.

Show me a QB who hasn’t?

You know what?

I’m a runner and pretty athletic. I can’t throw a football for shit. More often that not, I don’t really know for sure what the defense is going to do in a given situation. I can’t imagine why I’m still sitting here undrafted. It’s getting embarrassing.

So you're saying

the only difference between me and Jake Locker is that he called somone? Clearly it isn’t an age thing (exhibit A – Brett Farve) Jeesh, I could have sent a text to Goodell or some lackey. I can’t believe I’m missing out on the big money because of some small print.

You’ll need an agent. I nominate myself.
