Quack Fix: Baseball takes down No. 3 Beavers, Pac-12 TV deal will be great for fans
The big Pac-12 news leaked yesterday, but Larry Scott is announcing this afternoon. The event should be streamed here for those interested. Now on to the quack!
- It's been a rough year for Oregon baseball, but last night the Ducks took down the Beavers 7-2. Starting pitcher Christian Jones was dominant on the night, taking a shutout into the ninth inning before that was ended up two-run home run. This was Oregon's first win in Corvallis since reinstatement.
- We know the new Pac-12 deal will be money-tastic, but there is another very important aspect. How will this affect us fans? Jeff Nusser from CougCenter looks at the deal, and calls is "simply awesome for us Pac-10 fans who have been treated as second-class sports citizens for far too long." This deal will be great, and with the multiple partners, does a great job of balancing exposure and availability.
- The Oregon spring game was a smashing success, and not just in attendance. Over 63,000 pounds of food was donated at the game.
- In ex-Duck news, Malik Hairston is leading his team towards a Euroleague title in his first year playing in Europe. Malik has been really close to getting championships both in college and in the pros, so hopefully he can finally get one.
- Jerry Allen caught up with another ex-Duck, Nick Reed. Nick has had a tough last year battling injury, but has been continuing to work, and will get another chance this year with the Chicago Bears.
- I hate when Oregon plays at Washington State. Nothing good can happen there. But WSU is planning on renovating their stadium, so they may finally rise above the level of a high school stadium.
- Ted Miller takes a look at the returning ball hawks in the Pac-12. Cliff Harris and John Boyett come in at 1 and 2, with 6 and 5 interceptions, respectively.
That's all for now. Leave anything else in the comments. GO DUCKS!

Just because I think this might have gotten lost in all the Pac-12 media deal news and Im nothing if not incredibly self-absorbed, I did write a post on the OMB yesterday. I mean everything in good fun! Enjoy!

I’m surprised you didn’t include what should have been obligatory snarky comments on the Century21 yellow blazers that passed for uniforms in the early 70s.

ESPN and Fox execs are on the stage together, and they aren’t in a fight. It’s a good sign.

What’s the split on men’s basketball (between ESPN and Fox)?

So is the Pac12 going to get a “featured” game on ESPN each week like the SEC gets?

The press release has a ton of info on how the games will be divided up...
- 44 regular-season football games televised annually on select ESPN and FOX broadcast or national cable networks, including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FOX broadcast network and FX.
- 10 regular-season football games per year will be on a combination of the ABC and FOX broadcast networks with full national clearance with a substantial commitment for primetime coverage.
- 34 regular-season games on national cable networks, FX, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.
- The remaining regular-season football games, an average of approximately three games per week, will be featured exclusively on the Pac-12 Network.
So, it sounds like every single Pac-12 game should get national coverage, or be on the Pac-12 network.

It also sounds like we're going to have more night games than before.

So, I’m finally about to watch the Spring Game. Does someone want to come over and hold their finger over Kiko Alonso for the whole game? I don’t want to get too excited.

That Martin Stadium renovation looks great! That might make me actually want to visit my friend up there for a Ducks game some time (I’ve already passed up several since he moved to the Spokane area)
It looks really good but how are they going to pay for it?

I'm glad to hear that WSU will rennovate their stadium and add more empty seats.

Maybe the U of O AD can use some of this money to support the 16.5 money-losing sports (men’s basketball counts as a 1/2) instead of forcing football season ticket holders to bear the burden of 25%-30% ticket price increases every year!
Prolly not.

As long as people are buying all the tickets at that price, and there is an elite product on the field, prices aren't going down.
Isn’t capitalism fantastic?

Looks like the DoJ is looking into possible anti-trust violations by the BCS system:

Gus Johnson parts with CBS
However, he might be talking with Fox about calling college football. Who did Fox just sign a huge deal with again?
