Hey everyone. I had some free time/was wasting some time at work and made the image above. Now I know that to some of you, it only looks like a blurry image of something resembling Autzen, with a weird scale bar below it. Now, hopefully if I add some context, most of you will find it pretty cool. I also have a few more that I will try and put up later. The image above is based of a gray-scale photograph that someone took of Autzen that I stole off of Google images. However, it is not my borderline copyright infringement that makes this cool, what makes it cool is that the image was milled into a smooth piece of silicon using a Gallium Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and imaged using a Scanning Electron Microscope. The image is approximately 20 micrometers (um) across, which is roughly half the width of a human hair (not Les Miles' hair though, his is VERY thin after this offseason). The FIB will mill according to contrast, starting with the dark regions, and moving up to the white regions which it barely mills. Pretty cool, and I hope you enjoy it as well. I'll post a few more images of a few other Duck related things when I get a chance. GO DUCKS! Can't wait for the game tomorrow!
