ATQ Blogpoll: LSU vaults to the top, Boise State moves to second
With only two decent games on this weekend, there wasn't a lot to differentiate teams outside the top two, so LSU and Boise State benefit greatly from winning the two high profile games of the weekend.
Outside of that, I didn't drop Oregon as far as the other pollsters. I think the Ducks showed a lot against LSU, even if the score wasn't as close the game actually was.
These first few weeks are always a little tough. On one hand, we want to rank by resume, so that leads to some wild swings, but on the other hands, we have a lot of assumptions to make about quality of wins and losses. I don't think Baylor or South Florida will end up in the top 20, but they have decent wins on their resume, so they are ranked for the moment.
Full poll after the jump, leave your thoughts in the comments.

Hmmm
Baylor beats the #14 team at home and they jump to #17, South Florida beats the #16 team on the road and they jump to #18. I’d think about flipping those two as the USF win was more impressive in my mind.
The TCU game was a better game, but USF was more impressive.

I had TCU way higher than I had ND. I don’t really care what either team was ranked by the AP or coaches last week.
And I think Baylor’s win was more impressive because they marched up and down the field on a defense that should be a lot better than that. South Florida was doubled up in yardage and had 7 fewer first downs. They had no business winning that game. They still get credit for it, but not nearly as much.

a defense that should be a lot better than that.
So we won’t take other polls into account, but shoulda and coulda is fine? USF didn’t need massive yardage to win their game. They did it with defense and ball control. Plus, they controlled that game from beginning to end, on the opposing team’s field. Baylor needed a FG in the last minute to win… at home.
Neither team really had any business winning their game, but at least USF looked in control of their destiny and did it in much more hostile surroundings.
Lastly, I’m glad you don’t pay attention to the AP or coaches, but you do to your own previous week’s rankings. I thought you weren’t supposed to that?

I didn’t look at last weeks ratings. But I think that TCU will be a better team than ND this year, and well, that’s pretty much all I have to go on right now. At some point you have to make assumptions about the quality of the team with very little data to go on.
Also, Baylor had far more business winning their game than USF did. They outgained TCU by almost 100 yards and had a turnover margin of 0.

USF had no business winning that game?
Yeah. Right. They only denied Notre Dame in the redzone over and over and over again.

Ok, that was an overstatement on my part. But their win seems far more fluky to me than Baylor’s did, and that’s the main reason I have Baylor higher.

if you drive to the opposing 10 four times and don’t score a single time, you probably don’t deserve to win.

ya good call. ND never should have been ranked considering the last couple years have been a debacle. RG3 looked legit but they stalled pretty bad in the second half and could have lost that game. We’ll know more in a couple weeks

You jumped fBSU too high IMHO.
That win at Georgia isn’t going to look nearly as impressive when they go 5-7 and fire Richt.

The Georgia game vs fBSU was overhyped
Georgia was crap last year and there was nothing to indicate they will be non crap this year. Don’t give fBSU credit, they beat a historically good team easily, but history is the only good thing they currently posses (oh, and a good young QB)
Thoughts
Boise a little too high, their win was nice against Georgia but the Bulldogs didn’t look too good…
ssshhh....
Yeah, but it's fun to move Boise up early only to watch them drop week after week
Enjoy it now Broncos, because you won’t be there when it really matters.

Oh my.
FSU is about to prove themselves. They can either prove themselves a pretender by getting annihilated by Oklahoma, or prove themselves a Week 2 National Champion by knocking out Oklahoma.
We’ll see soon enough. That game should be pretty good if Greg Reid (FSU’s star CB) can effectively cover Ryan Broyles.

My thoughts
Contrary to those who think you ranked Boise too high, I think they’re perfect where they are. They played in that game exactly like a #2 team should play — going into an incredibly hostile road game, playing a very solid game, and demolishing their opponent.
Even if you’re concerned about their ranking based on what may happen to Richt and his ‘Dawgs down the line, based on what we’ve seen so far — which is what this BlogPoll is supposed to be — nobody else deserves the #2 slot as much as Boise. (And as much of a Boise homer as I am, I do agree with having LSU at #1.)
Take them down later in the year if you want, sure. I think we can definitely debate the merits of absolutely murdering your slate of cupcakes versus edging out squeakers against tougher foes — that is, of course, the whole debate. But for now, to have anyone else ranked at #2 seems incredibly unfair and antithetical to the point of the BlogPoll.

LSU has the most impressive resume. fBSU has the 2nd most impressive.
As teams build up their overall body of work, fBSU will only have one direction to go because their resume just won’t hold up. It’s their destiny.

Not sure why fBSU has a better resume than any other team that beat a mediocre BCS team last week
Why didn’t Houston fly up into the top 10 after beating a crappy UCLA? Georgia had no reason being a top 20 team, they didn’t make a bowl last year even with the 4 OOC + Vandy cupcake parade of the SEC, playing in the weaker SEC East. It seems like value was given to the undeserved #19 ranking UGA had. The best team UGA beat last year was 6-7 Georgia Tech…
It's still subjective. You have to make a lot of assumptions about out going talent, and incoming talent - not the previous year's record.
Houston didn’t fly up to 10 because, like you said, UCLA is crappy. That win is far worse than LSU’s or Boise State’s.
Also, Georgia did make a bowl game. They lost to UCF in the Liberty Bowl.

UGA actually DID make a bowl last year
they just lost to UCF, which is kinda sad when you think about it.

Making a bowl has become a meaningless barometer.
You can’t even say it means you have a winning record against FBS competition.
You might as well use “Had a winning record against teams with red or blue in their color scheme.”
The "Beano Cook" of ATQ.
No one's arguing with you, dude.
The SEC would have been better served had UK, UGA, and UT been skipped out of the postseason at 6-6.
