FSU Game?
Has anyone seen the headline that WVU wants to cancel it's game with FSU next season? With WVU planning on moving to the Big 12, they need to trim one OOC game from their schedule and want to remove Florida State. FSU doesn't want to have it cancelled because it needs an FBS school to play.
What about Oregon? Oregon currently has Fresno State on schedule for Sept. 8. Does anyone know if it's even possible get out of that game and add a home-and-home (preferably with the opposing team playing here first so they don't back out of the back half) with FSU?
Just some food for though. Would improve our OOC schedule next year!

I doubt it
We just scheduled Fresno this past year, so even if the buyout isn’t too high, it would probably piss Fresno off. Also, I don’t think FSU would want to travel cross-country to get their butt-whipped at Autzen. And I don’t think Chip, for all of his anytime, anywhere talk, really wants to schedule top-tier OOC opponent, unless it is a nationally televised marque game like LSU was.
Given the 9 game conference schedule, there’s really not much incentive to play those kind of games anymore, at least when your realistic goal is a national championship.
Chip would be on board.
FSU is already getting (undeserved) hype, it would be a rare early OOC matchup between top-10 teams, therefore it would be a high-profile game. And given our current schedule, unless a P12 team outside of SC climbs into the top-10 we don’t have another “statement game” that could separate us from another unbeaten or one-loss team in the eyes of the voters and the computers.

Wont happen
Mainly because there is NO upside to playing a Top-10 Oregon team. Strength of schedule doesnt mean anything anymore so we’d be looking to replace WVU with a 1-AA team or a bad 1-A team. You cant win a championship in September but you can certainly lose it, and a potential early loss is not something we’d be looking to schedule.
As 38Noles said, I’d rather see our teams play in a BCS/NC game matchup rather than an early season OOC game.
And I gotta disagree with BigGreenWreckingMachine, if you look at our returning starters next season, I’d say the “hype” is warranted. We just have to make sure to take care of business.
Hey, we lost our top RB and our top QB and here we are for the picking...looks like you guys could be first in line....?

Nah....I'll pass
Dont want to have to deal with Bennett (who I think will be really good), Barner and Thomas until a bowl game :)
Also
Ian’t the whole WVU to the Big 12 next year thingy still tied up in the courts? If so then WVU has no real idea of its schedule next year. They may need FSU when all is settled.
The announcers said during the Orange Bowl
that they will be issued both a Big East and a Big XII schedule, and will find out by June what conference they will play in.

What a fiasco!
So what is the conference that loses out on WVU supposed to do?

Nice site you guys have. I just stopped by to read up on the Darron Thomas story and was surprised to see something about FSU here.
This would definitely be a fun game but I think it would be very unlikely on our end. At the moment our AD’s public position is that we want to play the WVU game, but rumor has it what we’d really like to do is drop them for a far easier opponent (which Oregon obviously wouldn’t be). With a trip to USF and a visit from Florida already on the OOC slate for 2012, I’m hoping we can find a Sun Belt type team to replace the Mountaineers and make our schedule a bit more manageable.
Maybe we can get this Oregon/FSU game next January in Miami instead!
I for one greatly hopes it happens, but seriously doubt FSU has the balls to do it
You guys are what FSU used to be; pretty good on defense (OK, they were really good for awhile) and BRILLIANT on offense (near as I can tell they did it by recruiting the VERY fastest guys available, you guys did it with both scheme and recruiting . . . give the devil his due, Chip kelly is brilliant).
I’d pull out a fingernail to see the *ucks (apologies, this is overall actually meant to be laudatory to your program) screw Free Shoes University.
Best Regards,
Would love to see the Ducks administer the equivalent to the 'Whammy in Miami"
UW gave to UM . . . to FSU
Let me
preface my comment by saying I have a TON of respect for Oregon and what they have accomplished the past three years, and I think Chip Kelly is a great coach. Whether FSU or Oregon meet up at each other’s stadiums or play in a BCS bowl game, this game would would not be a cakewalk for Oregon. Here’s some traditional stats for you. Only the national champions had a better rush defense than FSU, only three SEC teams had better total defense(Bama, LSU, USCe), only Bama, LSU, and Temple had better scoring defense, and our pass defense is top-20. Opponent-adjusted statistics rank us as the sixth best defense, so we are pretty much top-5 in every defensive category except for two. We are only losing ONE valuable starter from this unit, our Will linebacker Nigel Bradham. The next starter is being replaced by a more talented player. So this game would by no means be a “butt-whippin”.

Interesting to look at it
If you look at it from a FEI perspective, Oregon actually has a better drive-based defense than FSU. Primarily because Oregon’s strength of schedule is significantly harder on their defense than FSU’s is.
S&P has FSU higher, mostly on their rushing defense. But they’re still pretty close.
If I could kiss Nick Holt, I would. Though, with him, I’m sure it would end in deep penetration and a score
It won't happen but is a cool idea
FSU schedules some tough non-conference games. With Oklahoma last year, WVU this year. Kind of surprising since they play Florida every year out of conference. You’d think they’d look at cupcakes in the other 3…
I would love to see Oregon play FSU. Exotic matchup, with a traditional power and a game we could absolutely win going away.
