SBNation And Addicted To Quack Oppose SOPA
You can't browse anywhere today without hearing about SOPA and PIPA, the two laws currently in congress that are attempting to alter the control that the government has over the internet. SBNation and Addicted to Quack are strongly opposed to these laws.
Copyright laws need massive changes to adapt to the 21st century. Unfortunately, our elected officials are by and large technologically-illiterate, and we must constantly be on guard against overreaching and counterproductive abuses of power.

Take the time to fill this out...
SOPA threatens to take our decentralized network and turn it into a network like the Great Firewall of China.
We must voice our displeasure!
done and shared on facebook as well
thanks to everyone who signed the petition!

Rec'd.
It’s great to see ATQ, Reddit, and Wikipedia (undoubtedly there are others as well) showing opposition to the two bills, and raising awareness of them.

SOPA opposition and fresh Quack? You just combined my two favorite things. I’m working on getting into the entertainment industry, but I haven’t seen many people aside from my peers giving this a good amount of attention. What with the blackout I’m glad to see interest skyrocketing!

It looks like a lot of previous supporters are waffling, which is great.

It was nice to see Wyden head the proposed alternative (OPEN)
it probably won’t be needed now that SOPA’s going down the drain, but it was nice to know he was in opposition while openly suggesting alternatives.
The MPAA and RIAA will never back down on this, but I do hope the ESA comes to reason soon. Kind of sucks my demographic is being lumped into the “we support SOPA” crowd.

He also has been threatening to Filibuster PIPA.
It's spelled "S-H-U-F-E-L-T-W-O-O-Z-Y".
"YOU ARE THE KING OF THE AWESOME GUYS, JSHUFELT!!!" - daisyduck
So I had heard
but it was also said that the supporters were close to the 60 members required to override a filibuster. So I wasn’t too optimistic about that facet.

" Unfortunately, our elected officials are by and large technologically-illiterate..."
Unfortunately our elected officials don’t bother writing bills themselves. They are written by whatever special interest is behind whatever bill it is these ‘elected officials’ vote on.
I’m pleased to see ADQ opposes increased governmental censorship. Keep it up.

This is actually true...even more true than "Saw it on Twitter" true.
"It’s great with these group of guys. There is no panic in them." --Chip Kelly, Clearly NOT talking about members of ATQ.
@jblair26
I'm not sure that should be an "unfortunately."
Most elected officials wouldn’t have the knowledge or the training to actually draft a piece of legislation. I wouldn’t trust them to write to a three year old, let me put it that way. That stuff does get left to policy wonks and interns on the staff. That special interest groups do the vast bulk of the framing, sadly, is a feature, not a bug, apparently, of democratic governance.

I actually had the fortune to watch the SOPA debate livestream a month or so back
The senators who are backing this bill are doing so blindly and without any real knowledge of how it affects people. At one point they were trying to figure out what DNS meant, a rep who was against the bill suggested “Why don’t we bring in an expert to help explain this for us?” The response, “We don’t need experts”.
To say they didn’t understand what they were debating is laughable, they didn’t understand the words that were coming out of their own mouths. What it ended up being was a group who were bringing up sensible and well thought out arguments and presenting them to a group of people who were stone walled children with their arms crossed and their chins in the air refusing to budge. They had nothing to say other than, “No.”
The people who are debating this in the senate are the kind of people you give an I pad to because they don’t understand how a computer works so they need the simplest possible version to do anything. It is our generation that has to step up and make sure that this is done right. Piracy is not a good thing and in no way do I support it, but I’ll be dammned if a bill like SOPA or PIPA goes thru unchallenged.
Let me put it this way, if SOPA were to pass, I could upload a video of Michael Jackson and the Government could put me away for 5 years. That’s one more year than the doctor who killed him.
But you are all the smartest, funniest, most handsome bitches on all the internets.~DaisyDuck 11.2.11
Sadly, I fear most of those senators don't have much knowledge of the details or real worl
impact of much of the legislation they support.
This case just looks so much worse because they don’t even understand much about the general idea of the internet, much less the details that make it work or what is presently available.
