He kept stalling and asking people for advice, then got down and started drawing up plays on the ground without actually saying what he was doing. I woke up in the middle of that and thought about avoiding the inevitable confirmation on Twitter, but checked it anyway. Made it about halfway through my feed, scrolling sadly…then flew through the rest of it with fingers of joy. Sheesh, what a night. Sure wish I could go back to sleep…

As I've previously mentioned around these parts I'm a Bucs fan too.
As nice as it was to think that if Chip wouldn’t be coaching the Ducks I could still support his team, I didn’t think this would end up well for either team.
Most notably, Tampa cleaned house this go around. When Gruden was fired a lot of the previous staff remained because Morris was promoted from within. Chip would have to rebuild an entire coaching staff, at a level which he’s not currently established. I have no doubt he would be able to do this over time, especially with the Dungy/Gruden connections, but I don’t know how much time the Glazers would give a coach they could be committing $15-$20m to over 3 years.
I think he had an interview this week, talked with some people he trusted, vented about the things he didn’t like about his current role, and maybe even rationalised why the move would be good. As contract negotiations began, maybe he realised this just wasn’t for him, and made the decision.
As a Bucs fan, I can’t help but feel a little jilted. But the Duck in me is glad CK is back in Eugene.

Hard to say indeed.
This ESPN report paraphrases, one of Joe Schad’s “Sources” as saying, among other things, he was intrigued by not having to “deal with parents.”
For the guys who have already been recruited, I’m sure their family’s are already comfortable with Chip and his staff. But it might make for a hard sell to any new recruits he’s trying to land in the last week with that quip hanging around out there, whether it’s true or not.

My story
So yesterday, when the rumors first hit, it was devastating. I didn’t really even want to look at the Internet. Normally for any college football story I come here and express my PANIC! or my OMGHOWAWESOME! detritus. But yesterday’s news hit so hard that I went to my back yard and broke everything that I could break.
I came back to my laptop and I thought, I’m going to need to change my sig now. And I tried. I sat there thinking of things to change it to. And not one thing would satisfy me. I could not, for the life of me, articulate anything that meant as much to me, any sentiment that I wanted to express about Oregon football as much as my current sig. I just couldn’t change it. I decided that I’d leave it there for a full year after he was gone.
Nothing, nothing will ever be as bad and as good as the last 18 hours or so. It doesn’t matter. My sig remains intact for now. I couldn’t be more grateful.
