Class act not present after rose bowl victory.
As happy as I can be for the Ducks I am saddend by Chip Kelly's lack of common class in his post game on field interviews. No mention was a congrats to Wisconsin when questioned about his teams victory! Such a simple act has a truely speading goodwill to all that are exposed to it. Praising a fallen opponet can only help peoples opinion of what has become a top program nationally. And a favorable opinion of the Ducks is a very good thing.

Wow, thanks!
But honestly, I don’t think I want the job.
Life is a sport: Watch other people play it.
Nope, not a class act at all, that Chip Kelly after the Rose Bowl.
Chip Kelly – First of all, I want to congratulate Wisconsin, Russell Wilson, Montee Ball, Bret, a class act operation from top to bottom. Two teams battled. It came down to two seconds to go on the clock, and it could have gone either way. That’s one heck of a football program, and we have the utmost respect for those guys.

It's not really a slight to miss it in the immediate celebration and trophy presentations right after the game.
But I think he’s right when he says it’s smart to do so, that’s the moment when everyone is watching, lots fewer eyeballs and ESPN replays later on the press conference. Sure, go ahead and say funny shit about Dr. Pepper or whatever, and of course how much you love your players, but just drop that one sentence in there to let everyone know you appreciate the otehr team while eveveryone is watcing.
It’s not “classless” to me, it’s just one step away from truly gracious, which everyone appreciates.
Ok, NOW back to my binge celebration.

I actually agree with you there. I wish Chip had done it and I think it would have been fantastic. Honestly, I do. But I completely disagree with the sentiment that it somehow makes him unclassy (OP’s point, not yours). Especially when you consider everything happening at that moment. It’s like the deal with Kiko; that’s literally the first time I’ve seen him interviewed and he has to do it as the first player spoken to on the stage immediately after winning the first Rose Bowl in 95 years? Nevermind the fact that they managed to slip in his “problems” or however they termed it. I highly doubt he saw himself being in that situation and I’d love to see how all the people mocking him would do in the same situation. I know I’d sound like a total dumbass.
My point is, I agree with you that it would have been smart for Chip to do, and I also agree with you that it’s not “classless”. People who think that need to just get the sand out and stop being such a sensitive sally.

What?
That’s not ‘nice’ enough. Kelly should have said something more along the lines of : “Wow. We escaped! You hear it said that the better team always wins? That’s NOT TRUE!! Wisconsin clearly dominated us everywhere but the scoreboard. Their coach – now that is a coach I’d follow into war! Heads and tails above me. Yep. We won and we won’t give our win away, but really – I, my team, and our fans (if there are any honest ones out there) know the better team’s the Badgers.”
by ConfofChamps on Jan 4, 2012 5:42 PM PST up reply actions 3 recs
What are you talking about?
Go look at the boxscore and show me where they dominated OR exactly? TOP? That’s nothing new, Ducks outgained the Badgers by more than 100 yards and that’s despite the two long passes that the Allowalloti defense gave up at the end of the game. First downs, Wisky had one more (see above), turnovers were even, and no team ever led the other by more than 7 pts all game.
Look out belooooooooow!

My apologies
Sarcasm is always a nice change of pace. I just happened to speak to a few Duck fans (friends) who voiced a similar statement (with no sarcasm). Basically they felt that we were lucky to win because of the miraculous fumble that stayed in bounds coupled with the spike play.
Cheers!
BTW, it was nice to see the Blazers dominate the Lakers again last night in PDX (and I promise, there’s no sarcasm in this post!)

And Wisconsin fans were doing the wave while Carson York was down for an extended period.
You can invent slights wherever you want. Chip Kelly gave ample praise to Wisconsin when he had his press conference. Some people are going to make a big deal about something petty and insignificant like this, but I think that’s rather stupid.

They were also chanting “fuck the ducks” while York was down.
All this is a non-issue.

Wait, seriously? I mean, I’m not the type of person to say “team X’s fans suck” because, as we know all too well, a relatively small group of fans can give the entire fan base a bad name far too quickly. But I didn’t hear this on TV, was it a lot of fans doing it? That’s pretty crazy. I don’t have my metaphorical feathers ruffled either way, it’s just news to me.

/CalFan’d
Speaking of Cal fans…man, they have really gone off the deep end at CGB. I went over there and read their Rose Bowl thread just to kind of see what some other teams impressions of the game were. I didn’t comment because I just refuse to start any storms these days, and I didn’t see any comments from any Duck fans. But most of them can’t stand us. And this one guy in particular seems to think that the refs allow us to hold on every single play and not call us for it. He made 7 different comments during the game about how we get away with holding. Sheesh. Royrules22 came in and said he’s glad Oregon won and got destroyed for saying he has a soft spot for us.
I guess the reason it’s so surprising to me is that I’ve always felt like Cal fans and CGB in particular was very rational and just…not so fanatical. Let it go guys. Let it go.
by MarineCorpsDuck on Jan 4, 2012 7:45 AM PST up reply actions
yep, that thread was very odd
part of being on top. The two blogs had a great relationship until we started winning conference titles.

The guy that “ripped apart” RoyRules was banned over here because he was such an obvious troll. He seemed to get mocked pretty soundly by the rest of their commenters. I think that omb tried to step in, but there are many people that just aren’t even worth engaging.
Outside of that one commenter, they seemed improved from their early bitterness though.
--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog
Yeah that’s true. There were several people bitching about the holding thing. Come on…you can’t really think that Oregon holds more than any other team. And take off the tinfoil hat if you think the refs are simply letting us do it. The thing that cracks me up about that is we almost ALWAYS have more penalties than our opponent and usually by a wide margin. So to complain about the refs is ridiculous and just sour grapes. But to complain about them months later is really crazy. You can call holding on just about every play of every game if you want to, so looking for a any hold to call every play seems like a waste of time.
And there are things like this:
Oh, how the tables have turned
I actually prefer USC to Oregon at this point. I really do not like Chip Kelly and what his Oregon program represents.
I don’t mind Lane Kiffin and Barkley is a nice, charitable guy.
by Berkelium97
I really don’t get it. I mean, I know that Chip rubs some people the wrong way. And I know we’ve had a couple of arrests. But what, exactly, does the Chip and program “represent”? It doesn’t bother me because I’m the type of person who doesn’t care enough what other people think to waste a bunch of energy trying to convince them otherwise. I was just reading it out of sheer curiosity, and ended up being surprised that they are still so bitter. If it was some random team I wouldn’t be so surprised. I’m just used to them being rational. But oh well, it won’t surprise me anymore because I’m not wasting any more time on it.

Chip and 'the program' represent real change
And a lot of people hate to have the apple cart upturned. Now, if Kelly was at Cal for the past few years and Cal just won the Roses last Saturday, you can bet ‘Berkelium97’ would be a bit more appreciative to what the Bears’ program now represents.
I'm glad that you put in the entire name, specifically the '97' part.

I heard far more Oregon fans chanting "Fuck Wisconsin" during the wave attempt
Mostly the group sitting behind the Oregon band. Everytime they started, the band picked up their instruments and played some random snippet, and once they stopped, the chanting started again…
There's no crying in baseball!
Perhaps you had a different vantage point (I keed, I keed), but this is what I remember:
Carson York went down. After an indeterminite amount of time, a Wiscy wave, which originated around their band, made it to the hybrid section (24 or 25) before petering out. Oregon booed. Another Wiscy wave came. We booed again, this time louder. We started the “Fuck Wisconsin” chant. They retaliated with “Fuck the Ducks.”

It sounded to me like they had an overrated chant going while he was down too, in addition to the wave
I loved that our fans responded with heavy boos when they pulled that stunt. I think we shamed them a bit.
being at the game, it was hard to make out the audible on-field from the stands. It was lousy. In fact, that facility needs a major improvement, not 1 monitor screen anywhere in the place other than the big screen. I heard it’s slated for some work.
When I went 2 years ago it was even worse. All they had was that one super old monitor. What you saw this year was an improvement!
