2012 Schedule: Changes Coming?

Although the schedule is formally announced, can the Ducks still make changes?

The Ducks know the schedule is too soft, and will make the decision to remedy it. I'm guessing they will look for a ranked team, also with a softish schedule that is also looking to prove something because they believe in their potential this coming season.... And there's always money and exposure to be gained by playing a special game early, and Oregon jumps at those. I think it changes.

What team(s) fit that 'bill'?

It won't change

These schedules are set years in advance and rarely change unless a team backs out. And often there are stiff financial penalties for backing out. Oregon was originally scheduled to play Kansas State and Georgia, I believe, but those teams backed out which was why we were forced to scramble to add the teams we have now.

Also, there is little incentive to schedule powerhouse schools early in the season, when that one loss can severely damage your chance at a BCS title run. The SEC has proven the cupcake model of scheduling works.

But CAN it?

When was the LSU game announced last year? I don’t know exactly but it was right around this time I thought. They’ve proven that they like big games early over the years. And Chip, I don’t think, even considers losing so he’d say lets do it!

(Now I gotta go check if the kick off games are already set!)

I think the Ducks can and would like to ‘back out’ of one of their soft games, take the financial loss, and then cover it with a better game and all the exposure – you have to factor that in – as compared to the boring schedule that will get little tv time?

Classic was announced 9/7/2010

So realistically, no – that’s not a good sign for changing things after the schedules were announced.

If I could kiss Nick Holt, I would. Though, with him, I’m sure it would end in deep penetration and a score

It CAN change, but this would be a major last minute change. Changes that happen this late are always bottom of the barrel, so the schedule would only get worse.

One of the reasons it's so soft is due to Kansas State bowing out.

At this point, nothing can be done. No top-20 team is going to come here, and the era of UO doing one-and-done paycheck trips to the Big-10 or SEC is long gone.

The schedule can indeed be chamged late, BUT it takes two to tango & $$$

As schedule commitments have already been made contractually, to back out of existing games usually requires a buyout on both ends of the prospective new matchup.

Beyond the $$$ issue, you need a potential opponent that is willing to upgrade it’s schedule difficulty by adding you.

It can be done, but sadly there are few top tier programs looking to icvrease stregnth of schedule nowadays, as the BCS system has proven that a better record against weaker opponents is advantageous, as long as you can string along the pollsters . . .

and I’ve got to say as a UW fan I’m very impressed that Duck fans are seeking to gain national recognition of the current strength of your program by openly asking to schedule better opponents!

I'm semi-impressed that you, as a husky fan, say something kind and meaningful about us Ducks.

If you’d do that on at the dawgpound I’d be fully impressed. And thanx.

He does, regularly

There are plenty of good Husky fans who can see good information beyond fan affiliation. Just like there are Duck fans.
