So cool...I met up with Peter Brantley on Sunday (Oregon LB 1986-1990). He signed his helmet and GAVE IT TO ME, from his junior year (1989). This thing was used in the freakin' Independence Bowl!!!
Anyway, it's on my shelf now, and I may just sleep with it by my side for the foreseeable future. coolest gift EVER!

Why is he wearing Puma?
It appears that the Nike post-graduate indoctrination program has a limited shelf life.
WAY cool on the helmet – what a nice guy he must be.

He is a very nice guy, competes in triathlons now
And keep in mind he played 86-90, before Nike became the brand for everything on campus. Much of what they wore then was actually Adidas.

Peter is not somebody who has followed football closely or the program. He played for a while with the Bears, but he said once he left that behind he left that part of his life behind. He went back for one game after his playing days…in 1991. Hasn’t been back since.
I interviewed him for an article a couple months back, and have sent him some videos of his playing days, which is slowly bringing him around to being excited about football again, but beyond passing interest in the Rose Bowl he really hasn’t paid much attention to Oregon since his days there. The more I talk to him though the more I sense that my passion for the program is starting to rub off on him, and he may make it back to Oregon for a game or alumni event this year.
He gave me the helmet as a thank you because he appreciated all the historical work providing him highlights of his days and getting him to re-open this chapter of his life he had closed long ago. We had a long chat and he said “man, I haven’t even thought about this stuff in 20 years…”

So you're saying he's not addicted to the quack
I’m very happy to see you are a world class enabler!
His years at Oregon coincide quite closely with mine. It’s kind of funny to think that having played D-I and NFL football that he wouldn’t follow it much, but then I think about my own life and the different things I’ve put behind me to concentrate on other things I want to accomplish. Still, the Ducks would improve anyone’s life exponentially of course, so it’s cool to hear that he’s beginning to become more interested.
That 1989 Independence bowl was a watershed moment – its beyond cool that he gave you his helmet.

No worries
The fact that I remember the 80s in no way diminishes my smoking hotness.
