There is a lot of football left to play, we can't overlook anybody, and Chip Kelly will punch me in the balls, but I can't help but be worried after the USC and Stanford losses. I'm worried if we win out, four scenarios could leave us on the outside looking in of the BCS Game. USC and Stanford should be our two biggest wins on the season, but now they are downgraded and voters can manipulate the results now and say LSU beat Washington easily, Washington beat Stanford, Stanford beat USC, therefore USC would lose to LSU by 40. It's not right but a ton of people on the east coast will be able to boast this now. OSU's rise this season was a pleasant surprise, but I feel in East Coast's eyes a win over an undefeated OSU < win over undefeated USC. We have great wins throughout the conference from the first 3 weeks that should show the PAC-12 is no easy conference to go undefeated in, yet because of that we are getting penalized or as some like to say "beating each other up" and lowering the caliber of Oregon's wins.
Scenario 1: Undefeated Florida State jumping us. FSU should NOT jump us, I think 7 or 8 teams in the Pac-12 can beat Clemson, Virginia Tech or Miami (The three schools fighting for second fiddle to FSU), 2 times out of 3. Florida state has a win against a still over-ranked Clemson and if they win out a decent win against Florida. 1 and 1/2 good wins on a season should not throw you in the BCS Title game, but the media still likes to act like ACC is not as big of a drop off to it's neighbors in the SEC and always seem to have a crush on FSU. This very well could be the year they are back as one of the nations best teams, but seriously how many times have we heard that?! Their cupcake schedule is already being inflated and if they beat Florida with winning the ACC championship they could have enough momentum in the pulls to jump us.
Scenario 2: Undefeated Texas or West Virginia jumping us. Geno Smith is fucking good, and Texas finally has a dangerous QB again themselves. I'm worried if the winner of the game between them next week goes undefeated. By the seasons end that team might jump us. I am especially worried if it's WVU. The whole story of Heisman winner (I think he's by-FAR the front runner right now and has to serious fuck up to lose it) in the 'Ship against (probably) an elite SEC defense. I feel like Geno's star power could move them ahead of us. I'm worried to a lesser extent if Texas wins out, but still not completely comfortable.
Scenario 3: A 1-Loss SEC team jumps us. I feel only because of last year this probability is much less likely. But say one of the 5 teams (Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina) are undefeated and another team has one loss. Voters and the computers could (criminally) repeat history. I am most worried of Florida, LSU or Alabama. LSU or Alabama for the season exact scenario as last year, but say Florida only loses to Georgia who loses in the SEC Championship game, Florida has one lose to another top 10 one loss team, with wins over LSU, South Carolina and FSU and gets catipulted (a la Alabama last year) into the Championship to play Alabama. Or say they only lose to Alabama in the championship game and the computers put them in second for a rematch of the SEC Championship game in the BSC Championship. I know these are less likely scenarios but we have heard these possibilities being talked about before (Ohio State-Michigan a few years ago) and then it actually happened last year.
Scenario 4: An undefeated Notre Dame team jumping us. I am putting this last because I don't think this will happen. But say it does, with their schedule, and the way computers and the media has boners for them, I feel they would jump to the #2 spot. For however many times we have heard is this the years FSU is back, we have heard three more times about ND. The media always seems to hype their wins up more. If we win against USC and Stanford, they are going to say, so what they lost SC lost to Stanford who lost to UW. But, if they beat USC and Stanford we will hear all over "NOTRE DAME IS BACK! HOW DOES THIS TEAM RANK WITH THE ALL TIME GREATS? THEY CAN FINALLY STOP SEC'S RAINE." That is until they get absolutely manhandled by LSU or Alabama in the BCS Game.
I should just shut up, stop thinking, look at the glass half full and enjoy the ride. But I can't help and be a whiney, complaining bastard sometimes, cast-in-point this whole Fanpost.
