Oregon's Greatest Games - Bowl Games Sweet Sixteen #1 vs #4

(1) Wisconsin - Rose Bowl January 2, 2012 [Oregon 45 - Wisconsin 38]

Why It Was Great - 95 years. That's how long Oregon had to wait to win its second Rose Bowl. They had been to a few in that span, but never ended up the victor until that night. It wasn't easy as Oregon was taking on a really good Wisconsin team that had finished the season 11-2 also and won their conference too. Darron Thomas, LaMichael James, De'Anthony Thomas, and Lavasier Tuinei were able to overcome future NFLers Russell Wilson, Montee Ball, and Jared Abbrederis. This was an Oregon team that started out the season fumbling against SEC powerhouse LSU, but improved throughout and took home the Pac 12 crown going 8-1. Them memories from that game are ones that will stay with Duck fans for life. DAT breaking up the middle at the end of the first for a 90 yard touchdown. Kiko laid out for an improbable interception. Terrance Mitchell stripping Abbrederis for a fumble while Chip Kelly jumps up and down on the sideline as Michael Clay dives on top of the loose ball. It took Oregon 95 years to once again say they were Rose Bowl Champions, and they did it in one of the greatest games the Ducks have ever played.

(4) Texas - Holiday Bowl December 29, 2000 [Oregon 35 - Texas 30]

Why It Was Great - Oregon jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind future star quarterback Joey Harrington. Harrington thew a 1 yarder to Justin Peele and Keenan Howry threw one back to Harrington. Chris Simms and the Longhorns would respond with three touchdowns of their own to take a 21-14 lead into halftime. In the second half Harrington would connect with Maruice Morris for a 55 yard score and then ran 9 yards for another to take a 28-21 lead 5 minutes into the fourth quarter. That lead was short lived as Texas ran the kickoff back 93 yards to tie it up once again. The final drive culminated in a four-yard run by Jason Willis for the go ahead, and ultimately game winning score. Harrington finished the game throwing for two, rushing for one, and receiving for one touchdown.
