Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Its Washington Week

A lot of people just don't get it.  Ask most people about Oregon rivalries, and Civil War is all that pops to mind.  And that's fine.  Civil War is a vitally important game.  One I never want to lose.  But I hold no animosity toward the Beavers the rest of the year.  Washington?

I fucking hate those guys.

I've had to explain this to many out of state students who just didn't understand until they were here a few years, but growing up around Eugene, you are just born with it.  Its an intense hatred. One so deep that if Washington never won another football game again, not only would it not bother me, but I would be reveling in their misery. Washington is evil.  Everything they stand for is evil.  And kicking their ass in Seattle on Saturday will be the highlight of my season thus far.

Why all the hatred toward the Huskies.  In some sense, growing up a Duck fan, I was just born with it.  But there is a reason.  There is a long history behind the hatred.

Most say that it started back in 1948.  Oregon and California tied for the PCC championship that year.  This meant that a vote of the conference schools would determine the Rose Bowl representative.  Oregon figured that it would have the support of its northwest neighbors.  But Washington voted for Cal, and lobbied Montana to do the same, giving the Bears the Rose Bowl bid.

A pissed off Oregon ran up the score on Washington 63-6 a year later.  And UW returned the pasting 49-0 the next season.

The ire between the two teams worsened.  In 1956, it was revealed that UW was paying their football players.  The dean of the Oregon law school, Orlando Hollis, prosecuted Washington in the case.  He not only got the football team, but all of Washington's athletic programs banned from the postseason for two years.  Needless to say, that didn't endear Oregon to any Husky fans.

The hatred has endured since then.  We all know the Pick, but I guarantee you that it wouldn't be as revered in Oregon history as it is if it had come against UCLA or Arizona State and not against Washington.

The late `90s and early 2000's were a great time in the rivalry, as both teams were often highly ranked.  Rick Neuheisel being the coach of UW, after he had run up the score on Oregon in bowl games with Colorado, didn't help.  That a loss to Oregon kept UW out of the 2000 national championship game is something I'm very proud of.

Then, of course, there was the 2002 incident where UW spent half an hour dancing on our `O' after a win.

This is the first Oregon/Washington game in Seattle since 2003, and we lost that game.  We need to go up to the overrated, falling apart piece of shit that is Husky Stadium and show those bastards their place.

There is nothing good about a Husky. This is one of the biggest weeks of the season.  And anything less than a win will render everything our team has done thus far meaningless.  I don't just want a victory, I want total domination.

HUCK THE FUSKIES!!!

Well, here we are again,
UW's annual "bowl game" yet again. As usual, UW blows and are the laughingstock of how to utterly implode a national powerhouse into a perennial cupcake. Without question the single worst permanent implosion in the history of NCAA football. And they made it look easy!

If UW brings their 'A' game (such as it is) and UO brings their 'C' game, it could be interesting to watch. Anything can happen.

That said, HUCK THE FUSKIES!! Get their faces in the mud and trample on them! There's a reason Ty's contract was not renewed at ND and now we get to see why yet again this year. Oh man oh man that must be painful to all those old UW alum's who get to see a terrible coach rake in all that bling and raise a crappy team and they can't so much as say 'boo' 'cause he's black. How galling. Ty gets to coach there as long as he chooses.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

The dead...
Duck carcass is nasty, but so is dog urine. The CW is in-state/family bragging rights; UW is the epitome of ignorance. Everything about them, the "I come from Seattle, and this We are better" attitude. Face it; you guys are as lame as your colors, Purple. PURPLE... and gold. Instead of watching "The Pick" I watch AB pop that bitch Ryan Appleby in the face every time Oregon gets ready to face UDud.

About the Dawgs...
As with most things, it's all about class.  Every university in the PAC-10 exudes class, with one glaring exception.  Huskies wouldn't know class if it bit them on the ass!  There's a big difference between loyalty and tunnel vision.  Where folks aligned with the nine other PAC-10 schools see healthy competition, Huskies seem to be blind.  When Saturday rolls around, know that Cougar Nation will be smiling after the Ducks open up a can of whoopass on the Dawgs.  Let the Quack Attack roll!!!

Oregon State or UW?
I think this debate could come down to personal experience. UW and UO has a definite history of screwing each other over. However, I have to say that I enjoy beating Oregon State more than beating UW in football. In basketball, I love seeing the Huskies lose but football, I have to go with the Beavs. The reason for this is that I grew up in Beaver country with the most annoying fans. I even went to high school in Corvallis. I don't know too many Husky fans so when we beat the Huskies I have no faces to rub it in. With the Beavers I have so many people that I can give a hard time to and trust me, I hear about it every other year when we lose at Bean Burrito Stadium. Plus, lately the Huskies have just sucked. Even on a bad year we can beat them so its just not as fun lately. If they think they are better than us then they need to look at what the rest of the country thinks. I'm tired of these poor teams like Fresno State and Washington thinking they can play with us. Complete lack of respect. They wouldn't say that if they were playing most other top tier teams.

I'm with you here
Couldn't agree with you more.  I despise OSU because that's where my pops went and he wanted me to go there too.  There is only one rival in my book and those are the unfortunate ones that reside in Corvallis.  This isn't Notre Dame...and we shouldn't have multiple "rivalries".

Notre Dame - Boston College
Notre Dame - Michigan
Notre Dame - USC
Notre Dame - Michigan State
Notre Dame - Purdue
Notre Dame - Navy

Yuck.  Just pick one and roll with it.

All great stuff....
I'm with most of you that I hate the fucking mutts first, bucked-teeth bastards second.  All the history described in this post previously, plus throw in the fact they denied me admission to their school.  My stepdad was at the '62 game where the fans tackled the Duck on the field, plus I heard all the other stories from him as well.

UW-UO rivalry is an offshoot of Seattle vs Portland, and Washington vs Oregon as states.  Everything to the north of the Columbia oozes misguided arrogance and entitlement.  The Civil War is can be summed up as a "house divided", whereas the UW rivalry is a backyard brawl where the winner kicks the loser after he's already defeated.

There's a reason that when Bill Moos arrived, he put the bullseye squarely on UW and said openly that we're coming after them.  Their tradition of success had a lot to do with as well, but there's a reason he didn't just target USC.  Also, it's been widely speculated that when Moos thought about their AD opening a couple years ago, that rubbed Uncle Phil and many donors the wrong way.  Who knows, maybe he'd still be here if he kept that to himself?  That is neither here nor there.

Here's to a great game on Saturday......for the Ducks.  I want to destroy those assholes.  Fuck the Dawgs!  Huck the Fuskies!  Neuter Neuheisal!  Kenny Wheaton's Gonna Score!!!

GO DUCKS!
