Tonight (Friday) my wife and I went out to Chinese food for dinner with some friends. Of the 4 fortune cookies on the table, here is the one that I grabbed. Almost creepy huh? Go Ducks!

When all is said and done . . .
Isn't it almost sick how much we've become consumed by this game, what with world situations like Myanmar and Iraq and global warming? I tend to rationalize my love for the Ducks by saying "This sport is a wonderful tribute to the efforts of young men encountering the trials and tribulations of physical confrontation, all the while learning true values of sportsmanship, teamwork, individual effort, and comraderie."
Modern sport truly has transcended any sort of ideal and it has been unfortunate to see college sports dragged into the commercial venue over the last 10 to 15 years.
Yet there is something about the atmosphere, the sense of unity, and the sense of community that a college football game creates that forms a very visceral shape of our humanity. We form, in one sense or another, a certain shared brotherhood with the men down on the field and we also share in their pain of loss and difficulty.
May the best team win and, perhaps in the spirit of some joust in Old England, may the fight be fair and sportsmanlike.

The game is popular with out troops too...
My nephew is watching today's Duck game in Baghdad (Army).  The two cencerns are not exclusive of each other.  I write to my son in basic training nearly every day and pray for my nephew and my daughter's boyfriend (Marine)also in Baghdad.  They love to get the latest O news.

Looked good...
The best part was definitely when Corso put the duck head on.

Run defense
I was really surprised by our run defense. They really stepped up in the first quarter.
I'm not happy with our lack of connecting on the big passes so far. Ducks are outplaying Cal so far overall though.A So I'm happy with that.
Go Duckies!

Too early to celebrate
But the Ducks defense has really stepped it up for the most part. Our offense started to look better in the 2nd half

Insanity
I'm watching this game on television and losing my mind. I was at the Stanford/Oregon game last week and nearly beside myself as I watched the Ducks play horrible pass defense. I'm really disappointed that they haven't improved that this week, plus the late brain farts on offense with the picks...oy.

There's still hope but good god. This game might give me an ulcer.

Why
Why do the Ducks look great when they're playing well and look like a trainwreck when things go wrong? I hate Cal so much and I just wanted the Ducks to pull this one out. They wouldn't be screwed like this if they hadn't screwed the pooch so many times. I am not pleased.

Hey buddy
Hey Dan...I don't like you...I really, really don't like you.  Oh, and I once kicked the crap out of your son in a high school football game.
Dan Fouts is a douche!

Wow
That was like the Holiday Bowl all over again.  Make just enough plays to be in it, and then screw up in amazing fashion in the end.  With 4 TOs in the fourth quarter, it's no wonder we lost.  We should have lost by much more.
