I haven't seen anybody post this quack, so here it is.
Paul Westhead will be introduced at 2:30pm PST as the new head coach of the Oregon women's basketball program. The Register Guard also has the story and Rob Moseley is on top of it as usual. If you would like some background on Paul, Wikipedia is a great source to quench your knowledge thirst.
In a decision that seemed to be inevitable, Bev Smith's contract was not renewed for the 2009-10 season. Moseley is also reporting the story. A snippet from Pat Kilkenny.... "Bev is a wonderful person and is one of our greatest student-athletes of all-time, and this decision was not easy nor taken lightly. She always had the best interests of the University of Oregon first on her agenda, and always represented our university in a first-class manner. We wish coach Smith nothing but the best in the future, and thank her for her incredible efforts and dedication to Oregon, and all the of the student-athletes who have played for her. However, we have not had the success over time with our women’s basketball program that we now expect from all of our teams. While we remain patient with our programs, it is also important to recognize that our standards have evolved significantly upward over time. "
Bob Clark, of the Register Guard, has some news on the injury bug that is plaguing the Oregon big men. Specifically, Dunigan and Catron are still sitting out most drills in practice and a decision on whether or not they will be available for the Pape Jam will come down on Friday. In other news, Josh Crittle had a mild ankle sprain. Also to mention in Women's Hoops, Rob Mosley is reporting that Taylor Lilley might be on track for her first appearance this season when Oregon hosts Georgia Tech at the Pape Jam
And the new arena Web site.
Gary Parrish with CBS Sports has an interesting story up on 10 coaches on the hotseat for this year. Number 6 on the list is our own Ernie Kent. The Mark Few rumor is discussed as well as the recent contract extension. I'm curious though, is Kent set up for a fall? He has a really young team this year and we may see some very tough losses. With the new arena looming, can the contract extension just be a shade covering up what is really going on or is this all just the same "Fire Ernie" talk that has been going on for the last couple of years.
OSN announced their 12-game broadcast schedule for the the Ducks this season.
