Oregon wins NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship

9

Runfast already beat me to it in a fanshot here but congratulations to the Oregon Ducks Men's Track Team who won the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend. There were lots of interesting happenings that you can read about in the article above but one particular stat stuck out to me. Galen Rupp was the first person in NCAA history to win the 5,000 meters, 3,000 meters and the distance medley in the same championship. Truly amazing. The women's team also finished tied for 9th, the best ever showing by the Lady Ducks at the indoor championships. Go Ducks!

Galen Rupp Sets School Record in the Indoor Mile

From the article - Galen Rupp set his third school record of the 2009 indoor track and field season by winning the mile in 3:57.86 Saturday at the Husky Last Chance Qualifier at the Dempsey Indoor Facility.

Galen Rupp Breaks American 5K Indoor Record

4

As the article mentions, Galen broke the 27 year old American Indoor 5,000 meter record Friday at the Tyson Invitational with a time of 13:18:22. That time also sets the best indoor collegiate mark since Alberto Salazar who held both the American Indoor and Collegiate Indoor 5K records until Friday night. Also worth noting, his time of 13:18:22 is the second fastest time EVER by an American Collegiate. The fastest time belongs to Oregon’s Bill McChesney at 13:15:72, set outdoors in 1982. If you want to see the meet, ESPN will be broadcasting it on delay Sunday starting at 2pm
