As Feb 2nd quickly approaches (yes i have that day off and yes i'm annoyed CK won't be announcing the signers till 3pm), here are some quick reminders on how to act like an adult. via Bruce Feldman and solidverbal.com My favorites include: 2. When viewing or, if you must, contributing to a recruiting message board discussion with other people in the room, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to have another window or tab open of something that’s potentially less nerdy. 4. Of the guys your team will get verbal commitments from, some will change their minds, some won’t get in, some will get in trouble with the law, and almost all of them won’t meet the crazy expectations bestowed upon them by the "insiders" and "experts." 7. For the most part, if a coach wins much more often than he loses and consistently gets to bowls on or after New Years, it doesn’t matter where his team finishes in the recruiting rankings. The process is fun, but if you’re just as happy out-recruiting your rival as you are blowing them out in November, recalibrate your settings.
Multiple sources are confirming that combo guard Bruce Barron has committed to Dana Altman and the University of Oregon men's basketball team. Sites have him listed as a 4-star recruit. If this commitment holds, this is a diamond in an otherwise rocky off-season for Altman and crew. Special thanks to Axeman23 who sent this along as well as a highlight video from YouTube. Duck Territory has also linked up this video.
Reports say that Terrance Mitchell is trying to graduate early in hopes to participate in spring 2010 drills. Mitchell is a 3-star cornerback and ranked #21 among fellow CBs by Scout
Some of this was noted in the Morning Quack Fix, but Cliff Harris was charged with felony assault for his role in the incident involving his brother. From media accounts, Cliff seemed to be coming to the aid of his brother who was the one instigating the incident with the cops. Hate to see this go down but it sounds like all parties involved, including the officers, didn't handle the situation well. I hope this all gets worked out soon.
Oregon received their second verbal commit for 2010 in Curtis White from Sheldon High School in Eugene. He is rated as a 4-star Defensive End by Scout [Edit]:ntrebon
Looks at though our old friend, Justin Thompson, has enrolled at Memphis.
Rob Mosley is reporting that Steve Greatwood, offensive line coach for the Ducks, was passed over for the Cal Poly job. Tim Walsh, of Portland State Vikings fame, will become the Mustangs' new head coach. Greatwood looks to be staying with the Ducks...for now. Next week, Greatwood will be in Nashville to be honored as the National Offensive Line Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.
Bryce McNeal is his name and Oregon is in his top four! He will announce Saturday during the U.S. Army All-American game.
Anthony Leon, a 4-star juco safety from College of the Sequoias, has made a verbal commitment to Oregon. Back in 2006, he was ranked as the 10th best safety in the nation and originally chose Florida State. I think the plan will be to have TJ Ward move into a rover-type position and have Leon compete for the safety spot. It should help mitigate the loss of Chung if he turns out. For those keeping count, this makes 4 JC commits in this recruiting class so far
Rivals is reporting that Oregon picked up Zac Clark with a commit. He was recruited by Chip Kelly. Mosley also has the story here.
