In today's Register-Guard, it mentions that Tajuan Porter was named Pac-10 player of the week after scoring 40 points in the sweep of the Washington schools. Porter is also only one 3 pointer away from tying the Pac-10 freshman record held by Jason Kapono. Additionally, Porter is back leading the conference in free throw proficiency at 92.9%. Porter may be undersized, have a poor (but improving, by all accounts) shot selection, and a defensive liability at this point, but he can flat out shoot the basketball.
The sweep also allowed the Ducks to climb back up in the polls. The Ducks are 17th in the AP poll and 18th in the Coach's poll. The Ducks are also ranked 25th in the RPI. So, barring catastrophic failures against the Beavers and in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament, the Ducks should be in, most likely as a mid seed (6-10). Although, I guess it is no sure thing given how the selection committee shafted the women's soccer team last time.
Go Ducks!
