I have a confession I need to make. I know that a lot of people in Oregon are having the same problem right now. But, even though I keep telling myself that its okay, I can't help but feeling dirty. Normally, this goes against everything I believe in and stand for. But, it feels oh so good......
My favorite pro athlete is a Washington Husky.
I know it sounds sacrilege. I throw up in my mouth a little bit as I say those last two words, but many of you know that its true for you as well. As much a I love the green and yellow, I also love the scarlet and black. I have been a Portland Trail Blazers fan for as long as I can remember, and the last several years of that endeavor have not been the most prideful, or the most fun. But things are changing in P-Town, and a lot of this is due to one man:
Brandon Roy.
A man that I spent four years hating with a passion. A man that kicked the crap out of the Ducks numerous times. And, yet, that man is now my favorite player?
If you haven't watched the Blazers lately, you really should. Even if you are not much of a fan, it is such a joy to watch. Team basketball at its finest, with ten players all contributing on a daily basis. This isn't the Kobe one-man-dominating the ball NBA, its total team ball. And Roy is battery that makes it all go. The thugs are gone. Blazermania is back in a big way. Oh, and it helps that they're winning, too (17 of 18, to be exact). And the best thing about BRoy is that he doesn't call attention to himself. He'll just as gladly set up his teammates, and give them all the credit. A humble superstar, a very unhuskylike quality.
For his contributions to the State of Oregon, I am able to forgive him for his past transgressions. This serves as proof that people can overcome their very poor college decisions to make something of themselves. And even a hardcore Duck can root for a Husky. And, while I know that many other Oregonians are struggling with this very same issue, I'm here to tell you its okay. You don't need to feel ashamed. You can embrace Brandon Roy. He is an Oregonian now.
To hell with all the other UW alums, though. Dirty scumbags......
GO DUCKS!!!
GO BLAZERS!!!
HUCK THE FUSKIES!!!
