The 12 Days of Duckmas: Day 8

In keeping with the Holiday Season, I would like to present a series called "The 12 Days of Duckmas", counting down 12 of the best moments from Oregon Duck Athletics in 2008. This isn't meant to be a comprehensive list by any means and is certainly not in order of importance. If anything is left out, the 13th day will be for finishing up the leftovers, taking back the unwanted gifts and spending those giftcards.

Now remember to sing along now...

On the 8th day of Duckmas, all UO Athletes gave to me...

a reminder that athletes do more than play sports

This year, the athletes at the University of Oregon formed a non-profit, student organization to help centralize community-oriented service projects. Organizations that have signed on to support the group include the United Way of Lane County, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley, the National Childhood Obesity Foundation, Kidsports, the Competition Not Conflict program, the university’s Holden Leadership Center, and local school districts. Read more about the O Heroes program at goducks.com, specifically this press release

Even though the University of Oregon has been highly involved with service projects, I was really happy to see the formation of this student run group. So often you hear about athletes doing the "wrong" thing and this is a great example of student athletes going out of their way to help people in need.
