Morning Quack Fix: 1.28.09

Yes, Tyrone. It's time for today's Free Quack Giveaway. Here's your daily fix:

  • Two pieces of bad news on the football recruiting front, and both involve Clemson. First, 5-star quarterback recruit Tajh Boyd announced yesterday he's picked the Tigers over Oregon and Ohio State. The Oregonian's John Hunt has more on Boyd's decision. And to add insult to injury, Under Armour All-American defensive end Sam Montgomery canceled his trip to Eugene and has eliminated the Ducks from consideration. And to top it off, Clemson is part of the reason, reportedly pushing hard for Montgomery. Ouch! I think we need to get Clemson on the 2011 schedule for a little payback.
  • This is relatively old news, but I might as well kick you while you're down. Last week, ntrebon posted this tid bit in the comments of the Fix's Jan. 23 edition, but I thought it was worth a more formal announcement: Standout prep WR Markus Wheaton has verbally committed to Oregon State. Hmm, Wheaton...that name sounds really familiar, doesn't it? Yeah, it does (they're cousins). I think I just threw up in my mouth.
  • The Oregonian's Ken Goe thinks the Scott Frost hiring is more than just a potentially great addition to the Oregon coaching staff, it's an indication that Bellotti is still in charge.
  • Let's end on a positive note: Former Oregon hoops standout Luke Jackson, who is currently playing for the NBA D-League's Idaho Stampede, has been named NBA D-League Performer of the Week. And another former Duck has been in the news: Fred(dy) Jones is back in an NBA uniform, amid a 10-day contract with the LA Clippers.

Sorry for all the negative headlines. But, as with any addiction, Quack isn't always a walk in the park. Feel free to post any other links that come up during the day.

GO DUCKS!
