This has been one of the most exciting years in college football that we've seen in some time. Contenders for the national title are dropping left and right. Teams that haven't graced the top of the rankings in years (or ever) are dominating the college football landscape. We have been treated to some great football week in and week out.
This week, Oregon still holds (barely) onto the top spot in our Blogpoll. If you're like a computer and look only at straight up wins and losses, then Auburn should be #1. But Oregon has pretty much dominated every team that has crossed its path. They are outscoring teams by 39 points per game, and still have one of the best wins of the season. Auburn is close at Oregon's heels, with a large number of very good wins, though they have not dominated the way that Oregon has.
And behind these top 2, we have a number of very good teams. Boise State, TCU, Missouri, and Michigan State have all had excellent years so far and will have to prove themselves over the last few games.
But no matter what happens, once again, college football fans are in for a letdown. We will argue about which teams are most deserving of playing in the national title game at the end of the season. But the simple fact is that there are going to be multiple teams deserving of a shot at a national title.
College football is a regional game, and we can easily tell the best teams from each conference. It's simply a shame that at the end of the year, we won't get to see these conferences and regions face each other to settle the debate. I want to see the best football possible at the end of the year. I don't want to watch some exhibition games that will prove meaningless and will ultimately shut out the best teams in the country from playing for the national title.
