Depth is often the difference between a good team and a great team. While they get few of the accolades received by their higher profile teammates, or even of the kickers and return men on the same units, they are the primary reason that our special teams are special. While they are the last two Oregon special teams players of the year, Johnson and Littlejohn both play multiple big roles on the team. Johnson is one of the primary reserves in our talented defensive backfield, spelling Pleasant and Boyett at the safety positions, and Littlejohn sees a lot of time at reserve linebacker in addition to their spots on the kick and punt coverage units. Butterfield joined Oregon as a walk on, but played well enough to not only earn a scholarship but be on the first team coverage units both of the past two seasons. When you see that Oregon doesn't give up many return yards, these guys are the reasons why. Thanks for making our special teams special.
