The University of Oregon will be represented by ten athletes at the 2012 London Olympics and, not surprinsgly, all of them hail from the track and field program. Over the next two weeks, ATQ will profile the Oregon alumni who will be competiting at the games.
As an Oregonian, Rachel Yurkovich is easy to root for. Not only is she an Oregon alum, boasting a dominant Duck career in the javelin, but she is a native Oregonian from Newberg. Yurkovich's accolades began when she was an All-American in high school, and she went on to have one of the best careers in Oregon history from 2005-09, when she was a four time All-American, a four time Pac-10 champion, and a two time NCAA champion in the javelin. She also played a little bit of volleyball for the Ducks. She is also the second American woman ever to reach the finals at the World Championships in javelin and is a three time USA Outdoor runner up. Given that Yurkovich finished 3rd in the 2008 trials, but didn't go to Beijing becuase she didn't hit the 'A' standard, this trip to London has to be extra sweet.
Congratulations on the trip to London, Rachel. GO DUCKS!
