While most fans have both eyes glued to the events in San Jose, the Oregon baseball team started a three game set against the Arizona Wildcats with a 2-1 victory on a cold Friday night at PK Park.
Sophomore Jake Reed got the start for the Ducks and went six innings against the Wildcats, giving up one run in an outing that got a bit wild at times, but with little damage done.
Arizona was able to load the bases with nobody out in the fifth inning, yet only managed to get a single run out of it thanks to a solid performance from Oregon's defense.
After Reed was done, left-handed reliever Christian Jones came in and struck out the side in the seventh and star closer Jimmy Sherfy came in to shut the door in the ninth.
Oregon's two runs came on a squirter up the middle off the bat of Brett Thomas in the fifth inning after catcher Shaun Chase led off the inning with a bunt single, and a ground rule double to right field by designated hitter Tyler Baumgartner.
The Ducks play Arizona tomorrow at 6 at PK Park, but I figure you all will be busy with something else.
