There are times when the games on the field are really just an afterthought, and that was certainly the case this weekend. The success of Oregon on the field was overshadowed by tragedy off of it, as tennis player Alex Rovello passed away in a diving accident on the McKenzie River. The UO community has been devastated by this news, and ATQ certainly send our thoughts and prayers out to Alex' friends and family. May he rest in peace.
On to happier news this week:
- The brackets are out for the NCAA softball tournament, and Oregon is the No. 3 overall seed. The Ducks will host BYU on Thursday, while North Carolina and Wisconsin are the other teams in their regional. Because Oregon is a top-8 seed, they would also host a super regional should they survive this weekend.
- The Oregon men and women swept the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships. Ho hum.
- The baseball team also swept Ohio State over the weekend. Its rough being good at everything.
- Finally, remember that we still have our miracle wolf auctions going on, with tons of great items up for bid including a football autographed by 12 former Ducks in the NFL, including LaMichael James, Dennis Dixon, Kenjon Barner, and Jonathan Stewart, and another football autographed by the 2010 team that played in the national title game. All proceeds support families dealing with Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
